to what extent are our problems with iran a result of iraq?

I mean, we've had problems with Iran for a long time, so our aggression in the region in the last decade isn't the cause of our problems, but our willingness to intervene in the last decade can't be doing us any favors.

knitR is awesome

it's a package for R that lets you go very easily from source code to a web page that includes your source code. easiest way to write up reports for homework, sure, but also great in general. It took maybe five minutes extra (over the alternative of merely commenting in my source code) to write up what I did in the assignment. And now it's just a web page. I could put it up on my site or something.
