The Aubrey-Maturin books are going to have to compress themselves in time to work out. I just finished the sixth, The Fortune of War, which takes place during the War of 1812. That makes it, uh, 1812. The first book in the series starts in the year 1800. The nineteenth and penultimate book, The Hundred Days, must take place during Napoleon's Hundred Days in 1815. That means 14 books in three years.

A couple of years ago I was visiting my brother and he seemed like a changed man. It wasn't just that he was over his latest divorce but rather, there was a genuine and deep change in him. I knew he'd been seeing a shrink since a rather spectacular (and very public) flame-out.

He's since stopped seeing the shrink. "One day he told me a story," Bro told me, "and it all just clicked. And I was fine."

A story?

Poll: nuts

I've been poking through R's books. I've also been burning CDs onto my computer. Mine at the moment, but I'll dig into hers. I glanced in one of her boxes and it seemed like she had a lot of Thrice. ? I picked up and started reading Troilus and Criseyde (translated). I've actually read Shakespeare's play, but that was long ago. I got it at a library booksale for like a quarter. It was in terrible condition, so I think I got rid of it afterwards.
