I got a new big desk! It's big enough for both my personal/actual working computer setup and my lecturing/drawing tablet setup to be side-by-side. With a little spot for a chessboard between them. I need a platform thing for the drawing tablet, though.

My fridge kind of broke over the weekend. The freezer is still at fridge temperature, the fridge is a little warmer, and I've been leveraging the fact that it's extremely cold outside to take care of the frozen goods. I also pressed a mini-fridge that was unused into service.

After a long bout where I spent all weekend doing a lot of C programming and other divers and sundry crap (including a theory problem added to the homework late which, annoyingly, I couldn't figure out even after reading the solution (which was 3-4 pages)), I've sort of gotten into a very productive kick. I even got some homework that is due on Friday done, like, yesterday.

I was writing a diary, but then I had to kill my browser for some reason. Drat.

I got on a Daniel Johnston kick last night because I was playing Wilco and their cover of the titular song came on. I've mentioned him before. He is a very good songwriter with occasional extreme mental problems. His work is incredibly inconsistent for that reason. He's a bit like the Mountain Goats, a solitary singer/songwriter who records mostly lo-fi stuff.

Because of the inconsistency of his work, I recommend looking at youtube video playlists to give him a whirl and see if you like him. People tend to make videos and video playlists only of the good songs.

A song of his you might know from covers of his work is "Speeding Motorcycle", covered by Yo La Tengo.

Print Story so we've found an apartment

a two bedroom in a three-unit building, very modest price, it has a basement, it's 2.2 miles from the stats building and is right on a bus route (that goes directly to the stats building). so that's taken care of. The only downside is that, while it has washer and dryer hookups, it does not have a washer and dryer. I suppose we could buy at least a washer, but that's inconvenient to do either way. We're hoping to move only one more time while we're settled here, hopefully we won't move out of this place, but there's always the chance that things won't work out or we want something else, you know?
