I was wrong about leaving tech support, or at least exiting end user customer tech support. My organization was losing head count, there was a short term option for security hardening across the border and continent, then there was a longer term option as a lab manager for a MFP program. I took the lab manager position, now my customers are developers, program managers and testers. I will still likely head across the country and border for that security thing.
The transition was rough, the guy I replaced has severe ADHD, it took a 53 hour week to get everything passed off, including moving a lot of heavy desktop printers. I have to get used to commuting every day again, wearing a mask all day and not working in pajamas until noon.
On the positive side I know a lot of the devs from my previous project; they were on it maybe 12 years ago and moved over. I have badge access to the buildings, and I have my own palette jack. I have a good excuse to go to Harbor Freight. I will also get to learn a lot about Rasberry Pi.
But that's not all. I'm also a business continuity planner and a safety monitor. That's heady stuff for a contractor.
Mrs. Ha has a new job too, as a personal aide for a woman with CP. She's been out of work since New Years, money coming in again will be nice.
C is for Chuck Schumer
Schumer is my favorite New York Senator. Thirteen years ago I was feet away from him after the Lilac Festival parade.
Lat month he was at one of my favorite venues, the Bug Jar, the bar where I last saw live music in February of 2020. He made an appearance to keep it open. Then, he's urging legalization of marijuana in the Senate.
New York has legalized it, but home growing won't be legal for a few more years, and the limit per adult is six plants.
C is for Covid
On Thursday Mrs. Ha and I got our second Pfizer shot. Luckily there weren't many side effects as I went back to work for six hours of moving printers, then back on Friday for a shorter, eight hour shift. Sunday nineteen_year_old and her bf got their second shot, she said she threw up this morning.
By Mother's Day everyone in the family will have had their second dose, we're going to get together without masks! We're heading into the Danger Zone!
C is for compost
We got a fancy rotating compost bin from Aldi's a while back. We're being more conscientuous about particle size and the correct mixture. Maybe this is the year we will get compost!
C is for cats and cancer
We're down to one cat, and a grandcat. We put our old long haired female down last week, she had an aggressive form of cancer. She went from being her usual self able to walk. climb and jump to being unable to walk in about two weeks. I won't miss her as much as boycat or buki.
