It's been 18 months since I last wrote one of these. Updates on the Mangino gang inside.

I last diarized after Jen's bonus Christmas #1. Since then she made it through bonus Christmas #2 and has a good chance at #3 as well. Her health isn't great. She's on the last line chemo (it's 6% better than placebo, but the side effects are terrible!) and is hoping to get in to a clinical trial. On top of that, she's lost 30% of her bodyweight this year. That doesn't bode well for the coming year, but hopefully her weight will stabilize. She has stopped working and is going to a pain management person to try to get her pain under control. We always knew that this would be a terrible, painful death. We just didn't realize the pain would get bad so (hopefully) early.

With the depressing stuff out of the way, on to the rest of the family. Work is still going well. My little startup company is growing nicely. We're profitable and I'm hiring a bunch of people. Suddenly, I find myself managing a large team. It's not what I expected, but it has some fun challenges. I've been working on a running streak since 12/9/2017. Today makes 270 days of running every day. It's been great for motivation! I've also started playing organized soccer. That's been surprisingly fun. I'm terrible, but I love it.

The kids are good as well. Mikey is playing club soccer for one of the top teams in our city. When he tries hard, he's an amazing athlete. I said I would never be the parent who has an 8 year old playing high level club soccer, but he loves it. His coaches are top notch and incredibly positive. As long as he's happy, I'm fine with it. He's doing well in school and has great friends.

Tommy is also playing soccer, although he has no desire to play club soccer. I coach his school team which is a lot of fun. He's happy that he has more homework this year and loves the he has to read every day. He's definitely a sharp kid. He's incredibly creative when it comes to building things. He continues to try to keep up with his older brother, which is a lot of fun.

All in all, life is pretty good here. We have our good days and bad days, but life is definitely pretty wonderful overall.

There are some miraculous trials out there by georgeha (2.00 / 0) #1 Wed Sep 05, 2018 at 03:18:38 PM EST
A very good friend from high school was diagnosed with leukemia a decade or so back. He got on a Gleevec trial, and he's still around and doing great.

Happy to hear from you! by clock (2.00 / 0) #2 Wed Sep 05, 2018 at 03:51:09 PM EST

 Hard, but good.
