In which I've been thinking about options lately.

I guess the distraction part first. I ended up meeting someone via an app ha ha ha back in November. I honestly haven't been on a date in more than a year, and I didn't expect much.

As it turns out, he went to the same military academy as the ex (but he's ahem younger), has a Ph.D. (!!!), he's taught and published books in his field, and he is retiring from the Army later next year. Right now, he's based in an adjacent state but has a house up here. He is very very attractive. He's been divorced for a while and is in this area as his kids are here. When we talk, we are on the same level. He still is surprised when he makes a military reference and I get it. If you were going to say that sounds like yh's fantasy come true, you'd be almost right.

It is still early, and while we text each other every day (he texts me pictures of himself with his kids on the weekends, for example), we haven't seen each other enough to feel like this could be an actual thing (yet).

Some of you might be thinking, but yh, I thought you were moving to CA? And yes, yes that decision was pushed to the beginning of the new year because of my inability to find a place, an impending office move, and my search criteria changing.

This means I have to have the "Hey, I didn't expect to meet you and I was planning to relo to the west coast, where is this going so I can make a decision." convo with him soonish.

I don't have to move for work but if I stay here for him, my next career step will be more difficult.

There was an announcement at work this week I did not publicly respond to, but ya know, if you put me in a position to fling monkey shit, I'm all in. I am an expert level monkey shit flinger (it's a hidden skill). I will take that role up with enthusiasm since the org needs it.

In family news...

LO is doing fine. She could graduate early after next semester, but she does not want to. YEAH I KNOW IT HAS GONE FAST. She is moving to an apartment this January with one of her BFFs who is returning to her school after study abroad. Now as her co-signer, technically I have an apartment (at least a room) in NOLA.

Thanksgiving was tiring since my sister hosted and she had too many people at her small house.

Last but not least, my Mom is starting to look super frail. I am unable to accept it.

AP classes helped by yankeehack (2.00 / 0) #2 Sun Dec 16, 2018 at 06:37:33 PM EST
She went in with a semester's worth of credits and apparently she is almost another semester's worth ahead. Like, she is only going to have two other classes to take after May.

So now looks like she'll take graduate classes her senior year.

who is paying ? by sasquatchan (2.00 / 0) #3 Tue Dec 18, 2018 at 12:03:57 PM EST
I mean, I was similar - graduated early. My last semester was 12 credit hours (3 gym classes, and 3 regular), was easy and lots of fun. Started grad school in the spring (full-time, funded, so I wasn't paying, and co-oped at NASA).

She seems more laissez les bon temps rouler, but ..
