Work. Update [2018-1-6 17:46:12 by anonimouse]: Timeline of getting a new contract

Watching
Mollys Game
Black Mirror: USS Callister.

OMG I'm stealing Herrings go-to title.

Work Good News

It seems that Prancing Horse Bank has finally cleared me to work for them, but it still takes them over a week to sort out my laptop and ID, so I'll be starting on 11th but only doing real work when both the above arrive on the 15th.

Getting employed is a drawn out process nowadays:
  • 07 Dec 2017 -- Interview, walked out with interviewer asking me not to go with anyone else - result!!
  • 08 Dec 2017 -- agent asked if I was interested at 575/day, asked for the weekend to consider...
  • 11 Dec 2017 -- verbal haggling over rate, said I would go for it if he agreed my figure.
  • 12 Dec 2017 -- formal offer at 600/day
  • 13 Dec 2017 -- clearance application form received
  • 15 Dec 2017 -- document verification request, resulting in trip to  Adecco in Harrow with passport and driving license.
  • 19 Dec 2017 -- timesheet portal login received
  • 27 Dec 2017 -- working time Opt Out request received and replied to. I offer to start anytime after New Year
  • 28 Dec 2017 -- company documents sent out (Incorporation and VAT certificates) again.
  • 04 Jan 2017 -- formal confirmation of clearance completion, can start role. I offer to start on 8th
  • 05 Jan 2018 -- get notified my laptop and ID won't be ready till 15th, will have to pair with someone till 11th
  • 11 Jan 2018 -- go to first day of work
  • 15 Jan 2018 -- get laptop and ID so I can do some work instead of looking over someones shoulder.

Work Bad News

I was hoping my side job would turn up trumps, and it appears the preliminary work I did went down well. Unfortunately it looks as though I'll have to wait till February for work.

Molly's Game

Whilst it's probably not a movie I'll watch again and again, Molly's Game is well worth watching. An interesting story of how a young woman sets up and runs a high stakes poker game and her resulting legal and medical problems kept me interested all the way through.

Black Mirror: USS Callister

A good episode of Black Mirror which doesn't go the way you expect at the start.

I caught a bit of that while my wife was watching it. I asked her if the rest of the episode was as dumb as the few minutes I caught.

The more I see of Black Mirror the less I want to watch any of it.

I can understand not liking some of the episodes, but I'm not sure why you'd dislike the whole premise.

Also what is not to like about an episode riffing off early Star Trek?

What's happened? I'm too in the middle of trying to get a 600 a day contract with Ukian Middle Market Clothes But Posh Food Retail Emporium. Phone interview done, submitted tech test and then a 2 hour face to face. Fingers etc...

There seems to be more than one way of working as a contractor for them and as you've observed the more common way (through WiPro) doesn't pay as well.
