After months of procrastinating, I finally talked to my doctor and was referred to a sleep clinic. I got to wear a very large watch shaped device with a latex finger attachment. I felt a little bit like a young Luke Skywalker getting fitted with a bionic hand.

The results came back about a week later: severe obstructive sleep apnea.

Back in the spring I thought being tired all the time was just a function of training hard for the half ironman I was scheduled for in June.

But the race came and went and I stopped training so hard. And I was still tired all the time.

The diagnoses makes sense of that. I'll be getting my Darth Vader mask later this month. That should make for better sleeping and more energy during the day.

Only have a very mild form so didn't qualify for the Darth Vader look but got myself a mouth guard to reduce snoring

I've used it for nearly four years now.   I got used to sleeping with it pretty quickly.

It makes travel a bit of a pain.

I recently tried going with out in on a three day trip after not having missed a night in years and regretted it massively.  I don't know if I'd been conditioned to need it even more or just had been in denial about how bad it was.

I'm not really worried about getting used to it by lm (4.00 / 1) #3 Sun Sep 04, 2016 at 02:26:35 PM EST
I'm just relieved that my constant tiredness from the last year or so has a cause other than me just getting old.

Hopefully, my energy levels will be coming back up.

It doesn't stop the ravages of age, alas.
