A few quick updates about other stuffs.

One thing I neglected to mention about TX. So we went to dinner at some of wifing unit's friends' house. They're great people, but one thing is kind of odd: they're into Aleister Crowley and Kabbalah and other such things, which is just kind of weird. I really don't get the attraction. Also, I saw on the shelf that they only had the first Dune book. Are they only into the first Dune book, or did they read them all but not get the others, or what? I've only read the first book, I love it, but I've been wary of going further because I've heard mixed reviews and I'm really very happy with the first book.

So far, tonight's protests in Ferguson seem to indicate that police being nice gets better results than police dressing like they're going to nuke you from orbit. Also, use of tear gas in war is forbidden by the Geneva Convention, perhaps it's time to get rid of it for domestic crowd control, too.

Also: Rep Steve King is a shtihead. www.salon.com/2014/08/14/republican_congressman_says_the_ferguson_pd_cant_be_racially_profiling_because_everyone_there_is_black/

More about Steve King: http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/politics/iowa-politics-insider/2014/08/14/steve-king-newsmax-ferguson-african-americans/14059461/?sf29817856=1

Right now: listening to an Allman Brothers album: Eat a Peach.

More: apparently somebody quit jorb while wifing unit was gone, so until they get more staff, they're working six days per week. Which shouldn't be for too long. But, still. Hopefully she gets a different gig on a moderate-term time scale.

Other people who are shitheads: Matt Walsh. It's one thing to be a tone-deaf conservative without nuance, another to be one with no uncertainty. He has a severe lack of empathy and understanding of the nuances of any other position. And he's a dickhead.

tear gas and the geneva convention by bobdole (4.00 / 1) #3 Fri Aug 15, 2014 at 03:29:35 AM EST
the chemical weapons convention (which is what you refer to) does ban it as a weapon, but not as a form of riot control. Nor does it specifically ban CS (and related 'tear gas'), it bans the use of gas as a weapon. Not for other purposes.

the fourth is okay, beyond that it's just a way for the son to avoid honest work.

I mean now I start laughing whenever I see someone with their fists up by their cheeks. It happens more often than you'd think, and you wouldn't really notice so much unless, well...

it`s a p....

See you, space cowboy.

could learn a thing or two from the fine people at adequacy.org.

Some person who I follow keeps retweeting his fresh steaming turds into my timeline like the "You accepted militarized police in Boston!" tweet. Oh come on dude.

the window, vis-a-vis warrantless house searches, is what was wrongly accepted in Boston.

There's a long precedent by georgeha (2.00 / 0) #11 Fri Aug 15, 2014 at 01:23:53 PM EST
way back in 1977, a Deputy was shot in our town and the suspect got away while his partner was tending to him.

As you can imagine, an overwhelming response ensued, including four helicopters, bloodhounds and mounties. Some of the police went door to door, searching houses. Our house got searched, too.

I don't know if this was considered a case of hot pursuit, or people agreeing to unwarranted searches.
