in retrospect, he should've killed dynamo when he had a chance.
suggestions for other movies, preference for ones I didn't watch during my latest schwarzenegger binge while the wifing unit was out of town (I really should've watched films that she was not likely to enjoy).
somebody at the old church in $SECOND_CITY asked me if i'd consider being a godfather to her teen kid. i was like, sure, though we weren't really that close while i was still there. we do interact on the book of faces.
work: i need to write that paper. i need to finish writing that material for the online section of this course - i've made a lot of progress on that already, but i have some major modifications to do on some things. i need to study for the prelim. ugh.
re: major modifications. there are a couple problems from the old homeworks that i think are very helpful for the students to do that involve their doing some simulations. it's long and the only thing they had to do was write out some results (graded on completion if they were sane) and then write a short discussion of some things. for the online things, there can be no written short discussion of things. but the exercise, i think, is extremely valuable for them to do. and so is the thinking involved in those questions. so... hmm.
I made a big blunder in a chess game that I am playing against a friend from high school. He immediately started to take advantage of it. He should've been able to win a pawn and either have a passed pawn or a stupidly powerful knight that could not be dislodged. Fortunately, however, he just utterly flubbed it a couple moves ago, essentially just giving away a couple pawns and removing his dominant knight for nothing. so now i have a couple extra connected passed pawns what will be a rook ending. Easy win. I completely flushed my edge away into a losing game a few moves ago, and he turns around a couple moves later and just throws it all out. I was worried for a minute there. Here's the current position for those playing along at home: 7r/1pp1k2p/p1p1rbP1/5pB1/4p3/2P4P/PP2K3/R5R1 w - - 3 25
global warming is a very annoying issue at times.
there's a mysterious dark patch on the floor of the basement. It was half covered with a rug, so I peeled the rug up. It feels like it might be kind of damp, but I don't know what the deal is. I can't tell whether I'm feeling dampness or just the cold concrete. It's some distance from the walls. There's a crack in the wall that's prone to occasional leaking when it rains quite a lot, but that's far away. Could it be water welling up, though? I don't know.
