Playing with databases on a laptop screen is a PITA. I don't see how anyone can work with Oracles SQL Developer on a 1366x768 screen without being converted into a screaming wreck after a few hours. Also my old laptop is suffering from wear and tear; the front bezel is loose and the PSU connector is distinctly shaky.
So I've bought an AMD-A6 based laptop with a 1600x900 17" screen (HP G7-something or other). So far I have to say I quite like it; for one thing it runs much cooler than the old model, except maybe when running Diablo3 or some similar 3D game. I actually bought it from Staples instead of Teh Internet as their price wasn't too uncompetitive and I didn't want to wait. The old laptop is probably going to get its bezel replaced and be "retired" to my mothers home.
I've also taken advantage of the fact that everyone wants a Samsung S3 by picking up a secondhand S2 off eBay. I'll let you know how that works out, but the plan is that Mr Minimouse gets my HTC Desire as a result.
Update: so my phone arrived at home on Tuesday, but I'm away for the week at work Ooop North near Manchester, so Mrs Mouse starts playing with the new arrival. By the time I get home on Friday, it is now "her" phone and the only way I will be able to get it from her is by prying it from her cold, dead fingers.
School Fete and Garden
It was the primary school fete over the weekend, and it was mainly held in the school to avoid the high winds and rain showers. As I have a small van, I was volunteered by Mrs Mouse to take away the trash. Explaining why you have 200 empty wine bottles to the curious Waste Disposal Site nazis was interesting.....
Anonimouse contributed by buying some pepper/ chilli plants, which I repotted and they are now residing in my greenhouse with the pumpkins. I just hope that Mrs Mouse remembers to keep the damn things watered.....
More Shopping
Having given my dad a deposit, my father starts keeping an eye out at the local car auctions for a replacement car. After a couple of failed attempts (it seems that Teh Internet has had an adverse effect on the availability of good value at Car Auctions) he manages to get a Mondeo TDCi. I still haven't seen it yet, but his comments on driving it away from the auction was "this is too good for what you do to cars" so I'm reasonably optimistic that the inspection at our family-owned garage won't turn up anything too bad.
