I just lost it all at the chess game yesterday.
The rest of the content is much like all the other content I have been producing lately.
Executive summary: tired, doing work for classes, played chess poorly, waiting for responses. Very quotidian.
I saw a clear way to win the exchange, but I lost the thread and then it looked like I was going to lose a piece and I couldn't find my way out and I knew I didn't have the will to fight out the game, so after about 15 minutes of thinking and not finding the thread, I resigned. The guy was like, "Really?" And I was like, yeah, I'm out of here. And he was like, "Nd5 and you're doing okay." Not great, but okay. For some reason I wasn't seeing the position well, Nd5 was indeed okay, but in my visualization I kept missing it - it looked like I still lost the piece. Okay. Whatevs. I got home early, I had a lot of crap to do. My other two teammates won.
The thing I don't like about the ND program is that they don't give you a master's along the way. So if I decide to shuck that jive after a couple years (I don't think I'll do that, but you should always have a plan to kill everybody you meet), I've had some good experience, learned a lot, got some great new skills, but more letters to put on the resume are nice. Though they might accomodate that if you bail on them. I don't plan to bail. But, you know... I'll see what VT offers. Haven't gotten any other responses yet. Will see what they offer.
I'm tired. I'm making brownies tonight because the wifing unit likes chocolate. I'll be finishing off a raft of schoolwork tonight. The numerical analysis problems are generally pretty good. If only I had Maple for those few stupid questions that require something like Maple rather than Matlab.
I need a nap.
