IT'S IN TRANSIT!

:)

:D

8D

It's in transit. "Ghost Story" by Jim Butcher is in transit to my library branch for me. Hot Damn!

I'm so excited.  I just (I mean JUST) finished reading the short story by him "Aftermath" which features Murphy as main character. This is so awesome.

Yes.  I am a mess of anticipation. I've already read the first five chapters and I am Psyched.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now on that same note, I have also just finished reading "Hit List" by Laurell K Hamilton. It was good but not as good as "Obsidian Butterfly" or "Narcissus in Chains".

Also I finished reading "Dead As a Doornail" book 5 of True Blood. It was really good and I am hooked. I am eagerly waiting for book 6 "Definitely Dead".

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Went to the Drive-in last night. It was a double feature night. Watched Cowboys and Aliens and Captian America. I highly recommend Captian America. It was really good and I really liked the way they put that story line together. Cowboys and Aliens was ok, but I think they could have used Joss Whedon to help sell the storyline and mesh the two worlds together in more depth. Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford are still HOT commodities.  YUM!

What has been YOUR favorite movie this summer (2011)?  WIPO preferred

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My baby and her dad are off on vacation one last time tomorrow. They are going to Williamsburg, VA. Its just me, the 2 dogs and a hampster. Woo Hoo!  Of course I have to work all week but that is fine by me.

Life is a little boring right now but I am ok with that. Upheaval can be a little tiring and stressful. Plus I have time to read. Love it! Mean it!

Ciao

I have a book en route as well by lm (4.00 / 1) #1 Sun Aug 07, 2011 at 12:51:46 PM EST
Peter Adamson's The Arabic Plotinus : a philosophical study of the Theology of Aristotle. I'm pretty jonesed about that.

I'm not sure about Peter Adamson, but the whole topic of the book written by someone like douglas adam's point of view would be quite interesting.

I'm also interested in hearing from you whether your book meets to your expectations and if it influences your current views of our society trends. In other words, let me know how it turns out.

It has nothing to do with Aristotle by lm (2.00 / 0) #9 Sun Aug 07, 2011 at 09:45:47 PM EST
There is an edited set of excerpts from Plotinus' Enneads that circulated in the middle ages as The Theology of Aristotle. Aristotle had cachet at that time that Plotinus did not. So, most likely, some student of Plotinus appended Aristotle's name so as to make the work attractive to a wider audience.

Don't talk about it yet.  Once I read it (which I should be able to complete by Friday) I'll be all ears and eagerness to hear your thoughts, theories and questions.

But I want to know who they were referring to as the parasite. Those little details bother me.

Not sure by TheophileEscargot (2.00 / 0) #18 Sat Aug 13, 2011 at 03:41:03 AM EST
It might just have been Demonreach's substitute for an IV drip. But I'm also wondering if Mab might have implanted some kind of parasite to keep him under control as the Winter Knight.

I definitely need to re-read the book again.

Any other thoughts or theories you care to share? Like I am guessing Queen Titania is working with the Black Council.

Sounds like the parasite's going to a big deal in the next book...

Not sure about Titania working with the Black Council. I've been re-reading "Proven Guilty" and back then it was Summer who were helping against the Red Court, and Winter who were refusing to strike back. Also there was a bit about Bob not wanting to attract the attention of any faeries, and Bob mentions that he knows more about the Winter Court, so it sounds like there's some history there that might come up.

Finished reading Ghost Story today by toxicfur (4.00 / 1) #7 Sun Aug 07, 2011 at 02:52:47 PM EST
As usual, a great ride and, while I was skeptical about Harry being in a new world, with different rules, I was impressed by how it held together and how it follows through so well on Changes. Someone asked Jim Butcher at his talk last week when the next Dresden book would be out, and he said the manuscript is due the beginning of next June. The release hasn't been scheduled yet, but it'll probably be next fall.

He also gave us the first line of the next book, which is a spoiler if you haven't finished Ghost Story yet: Mab, Queen of Air and Darkness, had interesting ideas about physical therapy.

So who do you think was the liar from the book?

I have a suspicion - by toxicfur (4.00 / 1) #15 Fri Aug 12, 2011 at 04:34:38 PM EST
I had originally thought it was Nicodemus, but Jim Butcher said in his talk that Lash and Lasciel show up in Ghost Story under different names, and so now I'm thinking the liar was Lasciel. I wondered if the Angel of Death was Lash? But I'm not at all sure about that.

Then me and you are close in thought by purr (2.00 / 0) #16 Fri Aug 12, 2011 at 05:34:18 PM EST
I was thinking Lasciel was the liar and Lash was refer to as "the parasite keeping his blood pumping". I have been thinking that the last couple of books that Harry has been talking more and more to himself as a sounding board and his instinics have been sharper with more frequency then before her. I think she is still in him but in a dimension capacity but still helping.  Does this have any merit with you?

Interesting thought! by toxicfur (4.00 / 1) #17 Fri Aug 12, 2011 at 08:39:47 PM EST
You're right that he's been talking to himself a lot more recently, and he'd become scary-strong. I hadn't thought about the parasite keeping him alive - I guess I'd assumed that was something that Demonreach arranged. I seriously am going to have a hard time waiting for the next book....

One thing that's made me think - by toxicfur (2.00 / 0) #21 Sat Aug 13, 2011 at 11:41:21 AM EST
Jim said that some of the people we think of as "good guys" will turn out to be bad, and vice versa. I keep thinking about Thomas, who we all want to like (I think) and trust (mostly). He certainly isn't all that he appears, and I hope that he doesn't turn out to seriously betray Harry. Marcone is another of those characters who has been shady, but who's generally come down on the same side as Harry - I bet he has connections with the Black Council, though.

And, speaking of the Black Council, who do you think is on there, among those on the senior council? I don't want to think that any of the "good guys" (Ebenezer, Injun Joe, the Gatekeeper, etc.) are on it, but I bet that somebody is, and I bet it'll be someone we care about. As much as Dresden dislikes the Merlin, I bet it isn't him.

Here are my thoughts. by purr (2.00 / 0) #22 Sat Aug 13, 2011 at 07:56:15 PM EST
Queen Titania of the Summer Court is bad. She is working with Black Council. Thomas isn't bad, but he sometimes is dangerous preditator.  I'm farely certain Ebenenzer, Injun Joe the Gatekeeper are good guys. Merlin is not working with the Black Council but he is a opportunistic prick.  Anciet Mai and Martha Liberty on the White Council might be Black Council. And I think Elaine Mallory is Black Council servant.

For good guys I think Laura Raith and Johnny Marcone are going to side with Harry. I think Mavra is going to be an ally against the Black Council, possibly even Nicodemus but both alliances are only very temporary.

Those are my guesses. What do you think?
