At least I can threaten them with switching to cable.

So I'm moving and I was poking around the internet provider site trying to see about switching my internet service as well as maybe upgrading the speed (since we have three people now). No prob, but they tried to get me on a new modem (with rebate, so it's free*). Well, um, okay, but I have a modem because I already have the service, I'd ideally just switch to a new address and maybe go a little faster and use the same modem. Hey, if it turns out that the extra speed requires a new modem, fine, I'll do it, or if the slight change I'm making to the package requires a different modem, sure, whatevs, but it will require talking to somebody on the phone, I guess, to sort this out. I don't want to be forced to get a new modem, even though there is a 100% rebate, if I don't have to. And on the phone I can threaten them with switching to cable to see about getting lower rates.

I'm definitely enjoying Game of Thrones.

I have such busy time.

I just looked at the deals Comcast has floating around. Not very good, actually. Might have to stick with what I have and what I can wrangle by threatening the CSRs on the phone.

And I think I'm going to have to ask if we're 3607 or if we're really 3609 (in the addresses) because the internet tools for these things seem to suggest 3607 is the E apartments and 3609 is the W, and we are W. Gar.

What do you do with people that believe in extremely nonsensical things? Ignore them, mostly, I guess.

I need a nap.

It's a catalog of strategies for cutting through phone menu mazes. We used it to get through to Comcast in about 2 minutes when we were moving my folks.

I now know what the noise that is usually spelled "lolwhut" sounds like. --Kellnerin

phone menu maze isn't so bad... by gzt (2.00 / 0) #2 Wed Aug 24, 2011 at 05:53:41 PM EST's just dealing with a phone and people in general. I mean, when I call, I'll just do it at work, put on a headset, and get work done whiel I'm waiting on hold. I'll have aaaalllll afternoon. I'm annoyed that I can't get what I want just by dicking around on the web site.

I also have to make sure I have the right address - very important. and annoying.

Hey, long time no see. Can't figure out my previous password or email address, so w/e.

I actually got hooked on the HBO series and had to know what happened next, so I picked up the second book in the series. Then I picked up the third, and so forth. Now I'm anticipating a five year wait to find out what the hell happens after the fifth book. Seems like this series the kind of thing you want to come late to. I'm not even sure it's worth reading the later books -- the fifth is fine, but the fourth is fairly bad. As the series progresses, the reader is introduced to a long list of POV characters that are mostly irrelevant and that the reader would be hard pressed to give a damn about. Normally I'd say fantasy and sci-fi authors make the same mistake of writing plot driven rather than character driven narratives, but the extra characters with margin relation to the plot seem to be mostly about setting, which seems to be an even worse turn. Setting driven, I guess I'd call it. Blah, makes for long books in which not enough happens.

Still, gotta know what happens. Seems like it might be prudent to wait for further books to come out to get too far into the series if you're just starting. Or maybe it's already too late.

which one are you? by gzt (2.00 / 0) #4 Thu Aug 25, 2011 at 12:50:55 PM EST
