Anyway, I had the wifing unit rummage around and she couldn't find them. So, I assumed that's what happened.
Later, however, she found them. So there's been some security breach somewhere. Either somebody's database somewhere got breached (bad!), our local network security has been breached (very bad! but I don't think we have credit card info stored on our machines - at least I don't), or some document got thrown away that had our info on it (bad! but I don't remember doing this and usually do this well). Inconvenient, especially since I just had to change a lot of credit card crap because we just got a new expiration date on our old ones last week. The security slipup was probably somewhere in that updating process. So it turns out the debit card thing was not necessary. Whatevs.
We're doing markov chains now in the stochastic class, so it's a lot easier.
Looks like we're hanging out with an economist on Friday. Excellent.
I really should be getting some work done.
One thing I really have to be careful of is letting my chess "learning" outpace my chess "playing". You can only incorporate so many ideas into your play at once, so if you're not getting much experience playing serious games, you're not going to incorporate the stuff you learned into your thinking process. You have to learn, and then apply, and then you really know it, but if you never apply it, you never really know it.
More chess: I know it will sound like I'm stuck in the late 90s, but I think I might make the Petrov and the Scotch two of my main opening choices. I'll probably pick out some lines in the Ruy Lopez (either side) to try sometimes at some point, too (both sides of the board) - the Ruy will never go out of style, and any basic lines you learn will be valid until your career is over...
An inappropriate line from somewhere has stuck with me, so I must share it. "They don't call it a blow vacation, after all!" It's not very genteel. I think it's a misremembered variant of something Chris Rock said...
I think I've really got to get out of here.
