In fact, a very successful surprise.

Inside: what Dr T gone and done.

Myself and my girlfriend flew to England this weekend, for a plan timed to military precision. Secrets were kept, trains caught, and prayers said for the weather.

A nervous sleep, and then Sunday arrived. Rain, bastard sodding rain all morning. Things were not looking good.

An afternoon sat in the garden. The rain had stopped, a barbecue was held. Then sun, glorious sun, and a suggestion of taking a walk.

Arriving at a secluded spot in the Ashdown Forest, Winnie The Pooh was no-where to be seen. Instead, there was one of the best views in England; a picnic spread; champagne; strawberries.

Taking her hand, the family heirloom ready to be placed, I asked her the question, down on one knee.

And Ania said... YES!

(That's probably not quite  right,  and I don't know how to use future tenses yet).

Dzięki! by Dr Thrustgood (2.00 / 0) #35 Wed Jul 28, 2010 at 08:19:09 AM EST
W Anglii is in the current plan, although God knows how that plan's going to work out ;)

(I'm only starting to make inroads on the past tense, let alone the future tense... or plurals for that matter ;))

wedding arrangements by iGrrrl (2.00 / 0) #59 Thu Aug 05, 2010 at 11:28:00 PM EST
I don't know if you recall that I can marry people, but I generally tell the couples who ask me to do the honors that if you can survive getting married, the odds of staying married are pretty good. It's a time of high, amplified emotions, not least for those around you who are not the ones actually getting married.

Have fun!

Job by ks1178 (2.00 / 0) #55 Wed Jul 28, 2010 at 09:05:07 AM EST
What type of work are you looking for?

If it's by chance ETL development (strong DB background, Ab Initio, Datastage or Informatica a plus), BI (Cognos, Microstrategy, or Business Objects, or reporting in general) or Java my company will almost assuredly have some more openings between now and the end of the year. (We just went on a major hiring spree over the last 2 months, so nothing right now, but most of those people are already accounted for and most likely we'll be hiring more sometime within the next month to two)

If you want more details PM me.

Have a load of C# and ASP.NET, know MySQL inside out and back-to-front and PHP... well, have spent far too many years working with that ;) Can chuck my CV over if you think there's anything I can work with?

[ Parent ]
That might still be a decent fit. by ks1178 (2.00 / 0) #57 Thu Jul 29, 2010 at 02:16:56 AM EST
We have a pretty strong internal training  program to get people up to speed on the particular tools we use, so as long as there's good foundation to work with, we're interested in good developers regardless.

The above, was more if you are interested in working in any of those environments. The only major thing we care about is a strong programing background, and at least some decent exposure to relational database design and theory.
