I apparently got a 98.5% on the homework last week, though I barely finished slapping it together in the hour before class. I'm kind of awesome, I guess. This week won't be so good because I picked a crappy data set that wasn't behaving particularly well.
Pat Mendes, a 19-yr-old force of nature, apparently put up a video of himself snatching 200kg. That would be an American record if done in competition and a seriously respectable number. The current world record is like 213kg, the heaviest ever is 216kg (done by the coach of his coach), and people who place in the Olympics in the super-heavyweights are usually between 200 and 210. Just last year the kid bombed out of Sr Nationals by failing to snatch somewhere in the 160s. IIRC, he missed this year because of injury. Anyway. Serious improvement. I'm quite interested to see if he makes the Olympics and how he does. Google around for the video, I really don't have youtube access here at work. Try "nailing a big snatch" or something.
I think we'll name the trophy Atlas. We don't want to give it a "real person" name, specifically, not a saint's name.
I just finished reading The Giver. I'm surprised it took so long for the kid to figure out "release" meant "euthanasia".
Interesting: 44% of testosterone enanthate users fail to test positive. I guess that's a lot better than failing a piss test because you took a supplement you thought was legal but, in addition to destroying your liver, didn't work and induced a false positive (or a real positive). Kids, don't do drugs or buy supplements, but drugs are probably better because you won't get caught and they will actually work. Seriously, though, don't do drugs.
