I started reading Esther Gokhale's book 8 Steps to a Pain-Free Back. Basically, it advocates better posture when sitting, standing, lying, and walking as a cure to most back ailments and that traditional societies (including Western society until the 20th century) do not have the same problems as contemporary society because they teach and retain proper posture even when sitting, bending over, etc.

Anyway. I have tight pectoral muscles. I work on loosening them every day. I did light snatches, light squats, over head presses, then a few light clean and jerks yesterday. Felt good. Only up to 110# on the snatches and 170# on the c+j. The snatches were just to warm up. Definitely feels good to get things moving. Need to ease into going heavy on the overhead stuff lest the AC joint complain. Just because I can put it overhead doesn't mean I should. Anyway. I really like Dan John's stuff. These diaries are getting very repetitive.

Wife and I are reading and discussing Lost in the Cosmos. She thought she might not want to finish it because of the chapter on semiotics, but when she read the chapter, she really liked it. Huzzah. Semiotics sounds daunting, but it is very fun once you get into it. Language! Words! Signs! Identity!

I'm sending in my taxes today. Discussed them with Teh Wife. Self-employment taxes are slightly counterintuitive to explain sometimes. Just take them as fact. I need to remember to do state taxes today or something. Relatively trivial with federal returns in hand.

I also need to get work done. Bah.

I did mine late too, I also forgot to adjust my withholding after the Mrs quit work to go to school so I guess I'm going to have to become a Teabagger or something now.  Give me my money back!

in the past I presumed that it was because I wasn't working out enough. Now that I'm working out pretty regularly and I apparently can't sleep more than 4 hours without my back hurting, I don't know what I'm gong to do. probably ask a doctor I guess.

I think this book is very reasonable by gzt (2.00 / 0) #4 Tue Apr 13, 2010 at 03:02:14 PM EST
I'll let HuSi know what my experience ends up being. But do get it checked out. I mean, if you have herniations or whatever, the book recommends you get those looked at before you do some of the stuff in here.
