School is bogging down a little, but getting over 100% on my midterms gave me a little leeway for trudging through the mud. I have another midterm on Monday, but I am not terribly worried because I am awesome.
This election was terrible. Utterly nihilistic. A lot of long-tenure incumbents losing to ignorant upstarts who campaigned on one idea: "KEEP YOUR BIG GOVERNMENT HANDS OFF MY MEDICARE." And the like. Because of their complete helplessness when faced with the task of actual governance, they will almost certainly be "managed" by the Party and Other Interests. Not that that's necessarily "bad", but it means they'll be a lot more subject to "party discipline". Rand Paul might be one of the few exceptions, he will probably be a "maverick", but he's definitely going to be "managed".
I squatted 400#x5x5 last night. That was cool. I'd do 405#x5x5 next Tuesday, but there's some nonsensical conference we're going to at work and I think $NEW_BOSS is taking the team to dinner afterward or something.
There's a powerlifting meet on the 20th in town, but I don't think I'll do it. It'd be $95 because it's a federation I'm not a member of, so there's membership plus the cost of the meet. And, hey, I'd want a t-shirt from it, so maybe more. Plus, that'd be a second consecutive week messing up my training, then there's Thanksgiving the next week, so I'd pretty much write off all of November. Money's tight right now because of unexpected expenses (and expected ones), but I don't know if I'd do it even then.
Almost done with Boat Book #4, which is based on a real campaign with almost no change to the action besides replacing the real commodore with Aubrey and inserting Maturin. Pretty good book. One of the many occasions where the truth is more interesting than something you could make up.
I'm somewhat surprised Proposition 19 didn't pass, but I suppose my thoughts on the matter were formed by biased sources. The only real argument I would see against legalization would be on public policy grounds - that it's not the right way to legalize it. You have to be careful about how you write laws and you want things done right. And that weed users are losers. Because they are.
Not that I care about California, because I'm not from there, but I'm somewhat amused the Jerry Brown is governor again because of, you know, that song.
