Gosh, I am too late making sense of all the films I watched in the last few days.

Lets try anyway:

  • 13 Assassins (Japan)
  • Submarino (Denmark)

- 13 Assassins (Japan)

Hyperactive, kungfuesque homage to Kurosawa's  7 Samurai.

A nobleman during a peaceful period in Japanese history is a complete psychopath, but he claims that his killing ways is a way to uphold tradition.

But several people of note around him are fed up and decide to dispatch this nasty piece of work to the other world.

Thus the help of a wise samurai is gotten, and he organizes a team of the best Samurais, plus a rogue in the mold of Toshiro Mifune's character in Kurosawa's masterpiece, to accomplish the feat.

Thus a trap is organized, 200 badies vs 13 goodies, guess who wins once carnage is over?

Half an hour of gory is far too much, the memorable moment is when the baddie is finally cut in half he is surprised to feel pain, and actually is pleased to have had the best day of his life.

- Submarino (Denmark)

Impeccable social realistic film in which two brothers, children of an alcoholic, abusive single mother, go through life suffering in all the ways imaginable.

One of them is an alcoholic and is in the brink of homelessness.

The other one is a drug addict that uses the little money he gets from an inheritance to buy drugs and become a dealer, but at least this is with the intention to support his neglected son.

One way or another they both end in jail, they meet there after a long time, but there is no happy ending.

Going to sleep now. I hate insomnia.
