Ramblings.  As they come.

My back is sore again.  Nothing stands out as a trigger.  I had a slight soreness right before bed.  And then when I awoke in the morning, stiff and sore.  This time it on the right side.  So I called the therapist and booked an appointment for Monday.  Applying heat has helped a bit.  It is not as bad as it had been but it is discouraging.  Part of my weight gain over the holidays was because of being laid up and not being able to exercise at all.  Figures I join the gym and I meh, I don't even want to think about it.

I want to go visit this:,0,5476233.column?track=rss&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+morningcall%2Fnews%2Flocal+%28Local+News%29

I looked on Google Maps to see if you can see it from the sat view or street view but either I am not looking at the right spot, or it's not visible.  The story is a little vague about where it is exactly.

Well hey, in a Post 9-11 world ya just have to be sure:

Fixing some code at work.  Which is not fun at all.  Pretty much have to rewrite it all, because well it's a bit of 'you can create your own pages' type of code, and that was not really the intent.  It's better than doing nothing I suppose.

Had a dream about a friend a few days ago.  A dream I wish were true.  But that ship sailed and I sadly did nothing to change its course.  I don't harp on it all that much but when I have a dream about it all, it kinda sticks in my mind for a bit.

George Carlin, through is autobiography, strikes me as someone who wants to portray himself as radically different and somehow better.  Well he was different from most, he was a tax cheat.

I have a whole chicken defrosting in the fridge.  I forgot to get it out say Tuesday so I may not get it into the oven til late Sunday.  I love the Perdue Oven Stuffers.  I get them when they are Buy One Get One Free, just picked up two this week.  So now I have three in the freezer and one ready to roast.  They'll provide meals all weekend and three or four lunches next week.  And according to Consumer Reports Perdue whole chickens are one of the cleanest of the lot.

I have bacon in the fridge too.

Anyway.  Off to bed.  Have a weekend.

People in Texas reporting hunters on private property to the feds?

How clean the chicken is doesn't matter much if it's properly cooked. I like to buy whole chickens mostly because they tend to be the least expensive and the leftover carcass is great for making stock.

Carlin was certainly an elitist of a sort. His gift was being able to be funny about it.

On the back pain, did the therapist give you exercises to do regardless of whether you go to the gym or not?

On the boat, that sounds interesting. My first thought was that the trees probably obscure the satellite view on Google maps. The article then mentions that foliage obscures the boat from view save in winter.

Yeah  I know!  In Texas!  We surely live in a Brave New World.

This I know.  It's always nice to start with a clean bird I guess.  The fat that collects in the pan I use for rice stock.  Makes the rice so tasty.

Yeah Carlin was funny.  Good to see that he hated doing the George Carlin show and loved doing Shining Time Station.

The therapist.  Ugh.  He's hit or miss.  He told me on Friday that he didn't give me exercises to do when I was away on holidays because he didn't want me to make the back pain worse and then blame him for it.  I have two exercises from him.  One is to lean backwards while standing.  The other is to start to do a pushup while laying on my stomach.  They seem to help a bit.

Yeah the boat is neat.  I was hoping that the sat images had been taken in winter, but no go.  The street view doesn't really go far enough off the road I think.  The article says you can see it from the road, if you know where to look.  It has to be off of 378, as 78 has sound barriers.

the therapist's rationale seems reasonable by lm (2.00 / 0) #3 Sat Jan 16, 2010 at 02:29:13 PM EST
That is, you want the pain to start to go away before you start working on making the muscles stronger. Starting an exercise program while you're in serious pain could potentially be a way to make things worse. That said, I would have thought that he'd have given you exercises to start once the pain started to go away.

Oh, and I'd forgotten that Carlin did Shining Time Station. I was a bit bummed when Ringo went but it didn't take me long to quite like Carlin as Mr. Conductor. I used to watch it after coming home from school when I was a teenager.

he seems not all that organized by dev trash (2.00 / 0) #4 Sat Jan 16, 2010 at 03:41:06 PM EST
Every time I leave an appointment he says I'll get exercises to do at home.  And I never do.
