Print Story Narcissism

So, after following the link in TheophileEscargot's diary, I started reading stuff on The Last Psychiatrist. I might have some diaries considering narcissism, or at least discussions about it in person. I'm viewing most of it as a cautionary tale.

I spent this weekend finishing off my move. Then I helped R finish her move into her new place. I got up around 6, got to work at 6:30, and finished about 21:30 on Saturday. I was a bit tired. I didn't eat much that day, either. I had been up until midnight the previous night moving my stuff, too. Needless to say, I was tired on Sunday.

On Sunday, I went to church. Then I came home, took a nap, shuffled some furniture around in my room, lifted weights, tried to take another nap, and went to a game night at a friend's. It's mildly annoying, they want to play kickball and then play board games and a lot of us would rather not play kickball for a variety of reasons. So we have, like, 5 people playing kickball, which isn't enough to, like, actually get a good game going. It also prevents us from having enough time to get into any really good board game in the evening because some of us have to work in the morning. Kickball is something that's, like, fun to do once, but then the idea is just old. We got in a game of Settlers afterwards. I got a slow start, but was starting to accelerate by the end. I think I may not have made the ideal choices, but I was playing fairly solidly. I did not, however, win.

I have a mild cold. It's been sitting around for a few days. I sneeze every once in a while, that's it.

The gym went well yesterday. I'm actually mildly sore today. My hands are also a bit torn up.

Speaking of my massive thighs, I tried my new relaxed fit jeans yesterday. They were far more comfortable. Same size, though: 36"x32". I often try a 34" inseam, I think a 33" is ideal, but lately I've been doing a 32" and I'm fine with the results.

Aaaaand... turns out something I've been working on all morning is based on a report with errors in it, so it'll have to be redone when they get me something accurate. Woo.

I tried to explain to somebody why black suits are not ideal. I mean, I wouldn't call them completely wrong, but black is typically reserved for formal attire, and if you want to wear formal attire, you should wear formal attire. If you want a lounge suit that looks fairly dressy for some reason, go with a dark grey or navy. Black is sort of a fashion-y type suit. Or funereal. I wouldn't call it wrong, it's just not quite what I would think they were after in that context. It sends the wrong message.

Speaking of which, I really need to look into getting that suit.

I need to get lunch now.

While he can be amusing, I'm not entirely convinced by his theory that narcissism is responsible for every bad thing that happens.

I imagine consulting him is a bit like going to see a family doctor who diagnoses everything as appendicitis.
It is unlikely that the good of a snail should reside in its shell: so is it likely that the good of a man should?

Oh, of course. by gzt (2.00 / 0) #2 Mon Aug 03, 2009 at 01:57:26 PM EST
I agree with you. Though you have to also concede that he's picking his cases out.

Or maybe he just practices in Narcissismville or something.
