So we're off to NC tomorrow, driving. Hope to make it in one day. We'll be visiting toxicfur's very young niece (born 8/20 in the wee hours of the morning), her parents J&J, and toxicfurs otherbrother P, wife, and 1.5 year old daughter.

I hope we're not forgetting anything important.

Hintfic anybody? (With apologies to Arlo Guthrie):
"You should never consider eating anything you found in the dorm cafeteria."

"Excepting Alice?" I blushed.

This was years before she opened the restaurant.

Uh, lessee, what else? I hope to use the week mostly off the net to get some writing done, and maybe make a dent in Anathem, which, in hardback, is way too big to carry around and so languishes unread more or less where I put it down when I removed it from the Christmas wrappings. Traveling by car, though, allows room to carry more stuff.

Including, it must be said, one of the dogs. We figured it'd be cool to take her along; she looooves a car ride, and she came from NC (she was tf-mom's dog), so it'll be good for her to see the brothers again. And for them to see her.

And it will, I expect, be hard; this'll be the first visit to NC, since. Brothers P and J still live close, and it's important to keep in touch with them. So we're going.

Looks like we'll encounter the outer bits of Tropical Storm Danny, heading in opposite directions on opposite sides of the coastline, sometime tomorrow afternoon.

I always take my coffee mug home from the office when I go on vacation, and try to give it a proper scrubbing out before I come back to work. We'll see if I remember.

Oh, and we're getting the house painted. The guy who did the roof last fall recommended this painter, and the both of them share the trait that they spend time up on ladders with their guys, doing actual work. I like finding contractors by word of mouth. He says we'll be needing a contractor to patch some rot. I should put my head out the window and see what's what. The painter will be finishing up while we're away, and he seems to be fine with that, despite the fact that it means the last 1/3 of his fee will be delayed. He's an odd bird: thick Irish accent with a distinctly French name.

Mom always said this house would be our salvation. Too bad she don't remember. Too bad that I still do.

He sails from world to world in a flying tomb, serving gods who eat hope.
