Weather sucked too much for biking or hiking at the weekend. Instead it was spent in the pursuits of the urban middle class - going to IKEA and being angsty about domestic chores encroaching on leisure time.

Holiday accom is finally booked for August, after 4 phonecalls, 2 e-mails and a fax. Southern Germany has not yet embraced modern technology or customer service. It isn't that anyone was rude, more that they appear disinterest in business. Also booked this Friday off as I am feeling very tired and have plenty of leave days. I might stay in bed and read, or hang out in cafes or go to thermal baths or something but mainly I will take pleasure in not planning anything.

So, are people who expect little or nothing from life and work their hardest with what they get more depressive than people who expect the universe to line up neatly to their will and rage when it does not?

Watched some of the Tour de France coverage. Not impressed that the leader had to practically punch some of the spectators out of the way. You'd think being fans, they might have a bit of respect for the actual sportsmen?

Now to return to multitasking - thinking and typing at the same time. Steady on...

TdF spectators by Herring (2.00 / 0) #1 Mon Jul 20, 2009 at 10:45:08 AM EST
I am surprised that the police don't do more. There have been some nasty incidents over the years, but recently the idiocy - particularly on mountain stages - is incredible. France, of all places, should have a criminal offence of "disrupting a cycle race". Evidence is easy to come by because generally the twats are trying to get on camera.

I'm not sure how much being punched by Contador would hurt. He's not a big chap.

by the TdF advance motorcycles?

It astonishes me how very stupid people can be.

But a 'normal' spectator who picked a bad time to cross the road, rather than an actual fuckwit as I understand it.

If you know the TdF is coming at great speed and imminently down a road, perhaps looking to see what's coming before you cross and not crossing if there's a motorcycle heading for you is a good idea.

They're all drunk. They spend the night before and all that day drinking in their camper vans in the rarefied air of the high alps. It's a wonder they can get vertical at all.
