My Internet, apparently, died on Friday afternoon. I was out quite late, so I didn't know. I was busy all day Saturday. So, last night, I drank some whiskey, pretended I was my roommate, and called tech support. We got to the point rather quickly: it seemed there was a problem with the line and they would send a tech out to check the external stuff. When I got up this morning, the Internet was working again, but I didn't have time to actually set it up again and check the electrical mail from an entire weekend of stuff. Nothing too important.

We played Mare Nostrum on Saturday. I, as Egypt, managed to pull out a quick victory by purchasing the pyramids. I wasn't shooting for it, but the way the trading ran, I was forced to take more tax, and that bumped me up to the 12 needed for victory. I was shooting for a temple and more armies so I could start taking out Babylon and defending my borders from the Roman threat, but, well, I was forced into winning. It's a constant threat if Egypt is playing decently and repelling invaders. One must be on one's toes in the trading phase. Otherwise, I wasn't in that great of a shape: I had to focus on military matters, defending my borders, rather than buying heroes or wonders, while Rome was unchecked because Greece was stabbing rather pathetically at my territory. Rome was one thrust away from victory.

My one regret is that I didn't say, upon declaring my purchase of the pyramids, "A full pyramid!" a la original BSG.

Anyway. I digress.

R S Thomas: he only gets more awesome.

Enemies: I have one fewer enemy. Ah, sweet reconciliation. Unless it's only a ploy. Hmm. I didn't think of that one. I was, after the tech support call, a little too tipsy to be thinking completely on my feet.

I should get my pullup bar from Again Faster tomorrow. Excellent.

My roommate is so darling sometimes: the pretense he had for asking this girl out on a date was to get her to look at his plans for a wine rack he was building because she's an architecture student (they both know it's only a pretext), so he also created a fake plan, drawn in crayon, in the 6-yr-old roommate style and he's going to lead with that one. It's terribly cute. He's a good straight man, so he should be able to pull it off.

I have Tom Jones songs stuck in my head.

I think I'll call that girl R instead of Improv Girl. My parents are coming through town in a couple weeks and they'll get to meet her and they'll be quite fond of her, of course, and she'll like them, too. It's all moon pixies and rainbows here.

I showed my roommate Dr Horrible last night. He enjoyed it so much he was willing to watch Commentary: The Musical. It was awesome. I polished off the whiskey. No wonder I was so useless: tech support and Dr. Horrible is enough to make somebody drunk because of the fuel consumption requirements. I called R afterwards to see if she got back from Grainlandia safe and sound, I was partly incoherent. When she had called earlier, she woke me up from a nap, so I was slightly abrupt and confused: it takes me a few minutes to get going. In short, the calls weren't terribly high quality, but I think they worked out great anyway.

Oh dear, though: if I'm going to keep up this calling frequency, I may need to look into getting a regular phone plan instead of doing pay-as-you-go. Cheaper. Cost-benefit analysis. Or doing Skype while at home. Hmm. Scientific research will have to be done. Okay. I already have a bluetooth headset thingy. Skype is reasonably-priced for what I want to do and it would be a good quasi-landline. So, I will look into whether the headset still works and sounds good and then I will go for it. Deal.

do you purposely pick them to have the only diary using them?

No, but I find it amusing when I do by gzt (2.00 / 0) #2 Mon Apr 06, 2009 at 12:39:16 PM EST
I also find it amusing when other diaries have the same tags. I would've expected somebody to comment on skype.
