The Fun Fun Challenge (FFC) aka the Late Fun Challenge, or the Summer Fun Challenge.

Update [2009-4-27 16:16:20 by ana]: Now with upload site link!

From time to time I've threatened to call one of these things, so now it's on. If you're like me, these deadlines come and go, leaving ideas in their wake, unrealized. That Tom Waits song you always meant to record. That story about the bird flu. That mixup of song and story and comic you saw here once. That program that creates synthesized Bach.

Well, now's your chance. Here are the rules.
  1. Rule number 1 is there are no rules.
  2. Enclosed please find a list of previous fun challenges (that I could find; if you know of others, do tell). You may use them for inspiration, thievery, source material, or whatever else you like.
  3. Thanks be to ad hoc, there's now an upload site for FFC1. He says he's not entirely sure about how it'll handle all different kinds of files, so please to complain if you have trouble.

That's it. If people need a deadline, how about August 1, 2009  Update [2009-7-20 18:10:50 by ana]: whenever it's no longer Sept 7, 2009 anywhere in the world (0800 8 Sep 2009, Hub Of The Universe Time, if Kellnerin's arithmetic can be trusted)? Update [2009-7-21 11:58:35 by ana]: The site requires the deadline to be midnight, Hub Of The Universe Time (US Eastern). So the end of Sept 7, 2009, my time, is the new deadline. Update [2009-9-29 11:10:30 by ana]: Now October 31, 2009. Update [2009-10-26 23:53:30 by ana]: And now, November 30, 2009. This really is the last extension. This time I mean it. Really, I do.

And now, the list:

Husi Fun Challenges:

These things are much easier to find if the authors use the tags feature.

Comics Fun Challenges?

So a purpose is like a box of powdered donut holes?

The way I set up the link list when I was finding this stuff didn't lend itself to descriptive titles on the links.

I'm pretty sure PhFC 3 was Animals, though I can't find the story. And you're also missing PhFC8, one of the best themes ever: What makes you hot?

Hmm. Ideas. This could get interesting.

I don't think we've ever seen a video fun challenge.

And I like dark nowhere's idea (in the hole; it'll go away soon) of doing a mix 'n' mash between a programming fun challenge and one of the more artsy kinds of things.

Also, I found (and added a link for) tmoertel's wiki list of programming fun challenges that goes back to the beginning on K5 (now: with numbers!)

I think MFC-7 is the only MFC that I never managed to produce an entry for.... of course what I should really do is call PFC-18

this toy may be either hilarious or deadly. Possibly both. (Apparently, it also comes in different flavors for different media, including Fashion and Food.)

that the currently active deadline is Sept 7. Is that long enough? Or do you already need another extension? ;-)
