Yesterday I posted what I thought was a great link. It was a place you could adopt a pig.

Then when the pig was old enough, you got to eat it.

But Yicky Yacky came up with a good idea. If enough people chipped in, you could all buy me a pig to eat.

Then I thought, why don't we all eat it?

So here's the plan.

If enough people chip in the cash to raise a deposit, I'll adopt a pig for HuSi. Come summer time we'll have a pig to eat. If we've raised enough cash we'll have a big hog roast in a field somewhere, drink lots of beer and eat the pig.

If we only raise enough cash to buy the pig but not to roast it, I'll get the meat and if anybody wants to come and visit who's donated I'll give them a portion of it.

If we don't raise enough cash for the deposit, I'll refund everybody who donates.

Can I mail you a cheque/cash ? This would also avoid any daft commissions being payable.

PM me the relevant details and it will be in the post toute suite !

BYO beer ? by Phage (2.00 / 0) #7 Thu Dec 11, 2008 at 05:06:17 AM EST
Or do we have a whip ? I've had good discounts in the past with local offies when you order in bulk.

Depends on the location. by hulver (4.00 / 1) #8 Thu Dec 11, 2008 at 05:19:58 AM EST
I'll have to look around for somewhere nearer the time.

A pub, with a big garden and cheep rooms who'll let us roast a pig would be ideal.

A field somewhere if not.

I'll have to scout around for locations if this takes off.

OK, it's a bit roughing it, but field + tents + food + booze. Could be a good laugh. I'd drive up anyway so I'd be able to ferry stuff/people back and forth.

In going to the UK (and Europe) and could be persuaded to align the long desired trip to Europe with a HuSI Hog Stock. I am unlikely to consume the pork, but can be convinced of the boozy part. But given the distance and likely expense, etc., it would be good to have a good idea of the dates sooner rather than later. So I can find cheap air fares, etc.

About when this HuSi-Pig-Gathering will be, so that I can save up some money, book a flight, and find somewhere to stay.

I'll see how much Maudite or Fin Du Monde or Blanche De Chambly or something I can import without being classified as a smuggler of fine, Quebecois beers.

(And if I can't make it or you don't raise enough to adopt the pig, keep the money. You deserve it.)

And England has a considerable brewing heritage.

While I like the Unibroue beers, wouldn't that be much like shipping coal to Newcastle?

that expression was retired in 1985. Also, why would you turn down the efforts of someone to provide even more beer? A chance to taste a shitload of beers from around the world would be an excellent accompaniment to a large gathering. RIG and I would certainly bring a load with us, especially if we drive up.

Although while Unibroue is good, I think that Chimay and Tripel Karmeleit are still better.

Where people might be interested in trying exotic coals that they can't get locally?

If so, then, yeah. I guess it would be a bit like that.

As long as this takes place by July. How much per? £20? I'll give/send you cash. Although we're still in Munich there's a good chance we'll make LHuSi drinks this month if only to get out of her parets' place.

Come to think of it you may have to get a bigger pig if we show up. I expect she'll have to be in for £50. We'll bring the Jaffa cakes.

That way, there's an excuse to bring gifts.

I've wanted to hit Englandia with the wife for a long time now. She already had to book her holidays for 2009, but HogStock would be very fun to attend.

I'll send £20 by cheque please Hulver.

Important issues need to be research regarding cooking.  Are we going for a spit roast or a fire-pit?
Hog roast sarnies or something more spectacular?

The place that raises the pigs hires out a spit roast device, so I think we'd go for that.

A medieval banquet would be awesome, but I think we'll end up with hog on bread with quantities of beer and wine.

Wont have more than a bite of piggy though. I'll also represent California in the Beers of the World game.

I'll probably turn it into a start/stop of a bicycle tour so I'm flexible on accommodation. Field, garden, basement, whatever's clever works for me.

Foreign banks also charge a fortune to write cheques. Once you explain to them what one is, and why the UK and Ireland persist with this peculiar custom.
