An experiment, if you will.

This is a word-cloud I created using wordle.net from the manuscript of my latest novel.

The full-sized one is here. I dunno if there's a way to get the thumbnail image to be the clickable link in this silly editor or not.

I must say, including images is seriously counter-intuitive nowadays.

I like shapes made out of words, by muchagecko (2.00 / 0) #3 Tue Oct 07, 2008 at 08:07:14 AM EST
but I'd like to see the shape as something more recognizable. I don't think the cloud does much for me.

Can you manipulate the words into the shape of something meaningful to the story?

A purpose gives you a reason to wake up every morning.
So a purpose is like a box of powdered donut holes?
Exactly

The cloud does do an okay job of conveying which aspects are more important, but there really needs to be something that makes use of the spatial relationship.  Such as positioning them so that words which tend to appear in proximity to one another also tend to be closer together in the cloud.

This particular one... by ana (4.00 / 1) #5 Tue Oct 07, 2008 at 04:40:01 PM EST
looks to me a bit like an airplane, with David being the rudder and Lupe being the wing, which kind of reflects their roles in the novel. Also the distance between their two names is somewhat telling.

But you have a point, of course; this is done by an engine relying on random numbers. Some intelligence could some up with something more relevant.

In hindsight, I guess I was overdue for a re-boot.
