How would I go about getting the item in the photos put together so I can 'train' this winter?

I gots it for free, so yeah.

Oh and a bonus shot at sunset.  It's blurry I know, but the colors, look at those colors!

I have a training roller thing by Herring (2.00 / 0) #1 Tue Oct 21, 2008 at 02:57:37 PM EST
Cycling on it is very boring.

To assemble: Attach bike (by the axles), adjust stuff until it all works, go.

Put bike on contraption (damn that things old), and proceed to burn through more DVD's than you thought possible.

I've done up to 4.5 hours on a trainer, but most times just 90-100 minutes is enough to wish for death.

buy a really cheap ass tire to mount on the back wheel.. Those suckers eat through your tires..

Also, no pics of 3rd base 'basket of issues' girl..

Pics of her? Nah. Although she appears to be playing games, sent me an IM 'quick hi'.

I do not agree by ad hoc (4.00 / 1) #9 Tue Oct 21, 2008 at 06:20:44 PM EST
A cheap tire will melt and spray black goo all over your bike, the trainer, and whatever is behind it. Melting tires also stink.

They cost a bit, but a trainer tire is worth the money. The $30 this tire costs is only twice the cost of two or three really cheap tires and will easily outlast all of them.  Plus you won't have a mess to clean up.

She said it's at least 10 years old.  I don't think i can use it though, I have a quick release rear wheel, and that hampers the proper fitting  Pity, I was looking forward to staying in some shape this winter.

Looks similar fittings to mine by Herring (2.00 / 0) #7 Tue Oct 21, 2008 at 04:15:32 PM EST
which go on my QR rear wheel fine. On the road bike that is - don't think it wil work on the mountain bike what with the tyres and that.

The one I have is not exactly new. And not exactly used either ....

Those trainers are made for quick release by ad hoc (2.00 / 0) #10 Tue Oct 21, 2008 at 06:30:55 PM EST
but you might need a different skewer. Trainers normally take the bottom-of-the-line, generic skewers. You should be able to get one for $7 ($3 + $4.10)  or $8 (with free shipping), or maybe about $5 from your LBS. Just make sure they're wide enough for your wheel. Road and MTB wheels are different widths, but you probably don't want to put a MTB on a trainer anyway.

About 2 hours is my limit by ad hoc (2.00 / 0) #11 Tue Oct 21, 2008 at 06:36:38 PM EST
There are only so many movies that will work for a trainer.

Top picks: Rocky Horror; Bigger, Longer, Uncut; Team America; Spinal Tap; Shawn of the Dead;
