The theme of drugs was somewhat fortuitous, as for several years I have had a sample from the ST:TNG episode "Symbiosis" sitting on my hard drive. One day in university, I was bored and watching TV on my computer when I recognised the beginning of that episode. "Oooooh, there's an awesome conversation about drugs in this episode, I'm going to record this!" said I, and that was that. I really only used some snippets of Tasha Yar(r?) from that discussion, but it fit the bill quite well.
I chose the title "Junkie Style" because I used several Junkie XL samples from a CD that he (Tom Holkenborg) gave me when I won a remix competition about 5-6 years ago. I could have done without them, but being on a bit of a deadline, I didn't want to put in too much time trying to create new sounds.
Things I liked about my track:
- layered instrumentation
- mellow groove
- samples from ST:TNG
- intro and outtro are too long
- same goes for the break in the middle
- needs more of a build-up at the end of the break
- drums need to be louder in the mix
