That's bullshit. You're a white suburban punk just like me.

Plus Lovely & Amazing, Christmas wrapup, withdrawal sucks, a beerstravaganza, and less.

Poll: Favorite American punk group?

We're mostly through Christmas, though I expect the kids to get more loot from some of my aunts and uncles, and from Mrs. Ha's side of the family. It was a decent Christmas, even though we've lost six year old to DS lite world. I even got good things, a multitool, a gator socket, some Craftsman pliers and screwdrivers, and a 12 pack of beer. The beer was from Mrs. Ha's brother, and is in a gift crate, entitled Beers of America. So far, the Tejas bock is good.

I didn't realize I was getting this, so I splurged on Saranac's 12 Beers of Winter, their Belgian Ale is quite tasty indeed. It's a beerstravaganza at the Ha household.

I revisited my adolescence by watching Repo Man the other night. It still rocks, warts and all. I need to get the soundtrack digitally, so I can add it to my mp3 player, once I fix the file system (the hard drive is full, but there's no music! It will likely need a reformat). Recommended if you have anger about things not being quite right, or like 80's punk.

In other movie news, we watched
Lovely & Amazing, which would have been perfectly at home on Lifetime/Oxygen, minus the few minutes of Emily Mortimer's full frontal and back nudity. It was the story of four womyn (a mom, and three daughters, one of which was adopted) and they're self absorbtion, with the men mostly being cads. Recommended if you like Lifetime/Oxygen movies.

Withdrawal sucks. Mrs. Ha was taken off her one anti-psychotic since it made her prolactin levels too high, and had a rough time. One of the side effects was helping her sleep, so she ended up with a few sleepless nights (insomnia is a gift that you can share with others, and still have). She's on a new anti-anxiety now, we'll see how it affects her.

It should be a low key weekend, the kids are going to Pennsylvania with my folks to visit relatives, we're going to Buffalo tomorrow to see Mrs. Ha's side of the family, and we don't have much else to do, though I am on call.

I'd even trade you my copy for three tickets to your  upcoming Hannah Montana show.

Used on Amazon for under 6 clams? That's not bad but half price books would be cheaper sans shipping. Of course you have to get lucky to find it there.

Warmest regards,

I'm not paying that much for anyone unless it's Britney Spears and that better include some backstage oral after the show.

That's a tough poll to answer by lm (2.00 / 0) #7 Fri Dec 28, 2007 at 11:04:23 AM EST
If I could go back in time to kill Michael Ness in some bizarrely brutal fashion just after Mommy's Little Monster was released, I would vote for Social Distortion.  I think where they went once the good Mr. Ness came out of prison, though, disqualifies them from everything that is right and holy in this world.

Kindness is an act of rebellion.

X, although they're not punk by johnny (4.00 / 1) #16 Fri Dec 28, 2007 at 04:42:24 PM EST
I expect X is my fave band among those listed, although it's not really a punk band -- more like power pop. The conventional history says Sex Pistols in London, Ramones in NYC and X in LA were the official avatars of punk, but they're three dissimilar bands altogether, and X was always closer to Nick Lowe & Rockpile than to Johnny Rotten.

X is the band I've seen play most often. Saw them twice in Boston and  twice in CA. If I recall, it was once with Billy Zoom, once with Dave Alvin, and twice with Gylkysson on guitar. In a biker bar in a nasty section of San Jose I saw them play in 1987, with Bad Brains as the opening act.  That was some show (it was the Billy Zoom one).
Buy my books, dammit!

though getting older, getting married and having kids has done a lot to mellow me, I've become so petty bourgeois.

Rancid.

Is that a joke option or not?
