Of course in today's world of convenience and technology drugs are plentiful, potent, and usually served without prior education. Be it "hard" drugs like meth or cocaine, "soft" drugs like marijuana, or popular favorites like nicotine, caffeine, and alcohol. Yes, those are drugs. Deal with it.
For a while many musicians and artists experimented with interesting drugs to try and bring out new creative visions. This was called the 1960s and its results were a lot of albums that make you go whoa, what the hell is this and why is the purple monkey dishwasher green nothing furiously?. This era can be summarized by viewing the party scene from Midnight Cowboy. The drugs back then were so amazing they could make even The Monkees interesting.
But after a while people got boring and they switched to drugs like speed and coke and heroin in the 70's that made artists jittery, assholes, and dead in that order.
Today there are so many kinds of drugs in the world we're still trying to get a grip on it. All the old illegal favorites are around along with fun new prescription drugs like ambien, prozac, oxycontin (or as I call them, Limbaugh-pops), fentanyl, percoset, viagra... and oh exploitable OTC meds like codeine and DXM.
Even today musicians are finding new drugs and singing* about them. (* for some definition of sing).
Your task is to make a song involving drugs. That is, you can create a song about drugs, or you can create a song while on drugs (NOT RECOMMENDED). You can also cover a song by an artist who was really into drugs (and by really into, I mean died cuz of them).
Entries are due in one month, Monday, November 12, 2007.
Yeah, we'll probably extend that but, like, pretend we're not gonna, okay?
I'll get some song hosting set up soonish...
