Big pictures of small things - with a delicious twist ending!

(Obvious Warning: Image-heavy post)

So I got a new macro lens today, and have been having a fun time pointing it at various things.

Mundane objects hide all sorts of interesting details!

Cigarettes:

Crap on my desk:

My cheap "jewelry":

Here, for completeness' sake, I have included a photo taken by my pal MRB (who some of you got to meet in Boston) featuring myself and my new macro lens.

I promised a delicious twist - and here it is: My new macro lens was home-made for about $5 from a Pringles can, a pair of $1 magnifying lenses and tape, and attached to my Canon PowerShot A550 using a bit of clothes-hanger wire!

Finally, here is a shot of the makeshift macro apparatus before being inserted into the tube:

That first image of the lighter was actually taken this way, by manually aligning magnifying glasses!

Those are really cool pics. And I'm kind of proud of myself that I didn't recognize the cigarette lighter at first ....

The screw by Dr Valentine (2.00 / 0) #8 Tue Oct 30, 2007 at 12:36:47 PM EST
There are more pics like the screw that dark nowhere mentioned. I didn't think that the screw was all that impressive but I will probably put it in "Adventures in Macroland II"

And thanks, Jane ;)
