Making friends and eating pie...

  • Say what you will about good ol Al Zarcowy, but he was one tough dude. Two 500 pound USian bombs didn't kill him right away! Sweet Jesus at the 12 item or less line, I hope they chopped him up into a thousand little pieces to make sure he's dead cause I wouldn't be surprised if he's just playing right now, waiting for the right time to escape. That's what I had to do time and time again in VietNam. I would lie there in the jungle and hold my breath while the VC would take my watch and crap, then after they left I would crawl back to our lines. But I really don't want to talk about that stuff, it brings back too many bad memories.
  • I want to wish all the Ukian blokes good luck with their team in the World Series of Soccer. I don't think the US has a chance, cause all our good athletes play sports that actually pay tonnes of money, so all that's left for soccer is our scrubs and physically handicapped people. As such I'd like to come forward and announce that I'll be rooting for England to win it all this year! Go , uh.. crap, what's the team name? The England Kickers? The England Nobbers? The England We-can't-figure-out-baseball-so-we-have-to-play-soccer! All the way!!!
  • Mmmmm. I'm eating some vegetable Beef Barley soup right now. Mmmmmmm. Just the thing to counter-act this cold I have. Come to think of it I think this is the first time I've eaten beef in about two months. It tastes pretty good actually. Then, when I'm done with it I've got a big ol chicken salad to eat! Wooo!!
  • One more week of work then I'm taking a week off. Nothing special to do, just some basic R&R and screwing off, as it were. I guess getting a cold now is the best way to go as it should be all gone by the time vacation rolls around.
  • Since my nose is all clogged up it's got me wondering something. If a fella, hypothetically, passes gas, but can't smell anything, did he really pass gas?

    Soccer World Series Update:
Germany has defeated, uh, some African place I think, to take an early one game lead over the other teams! Lets give it up for Germany for a job well done!

I had thought about watching these soccer games by georgeha (4.00 / 3) #1 Fri Jun 09, 2006 at 08:35:37 AM EST
in a spirit of International brotherhood. I reckon I could have bought some Ruddles to watch Engerland, some Kolsch to watch Germany, maybe some remaindered Beajolais Noveua to watch France, but since I've given up the sauce, I just can't see the point.

I'll probably just download the highlights clips, given typical scores of 0-1, 2-1, 1-1, that should be about one minute per game.

Good idea by Bob Abooey (4.00 / 2) #3 Fri Jun 09, 2006 at 08:43:06 AM EST
Really the highlights should be enough to fake your way through some intelligent comments.

"Did you see that goal by Pele! Woo, he really faked that middle linebacker out of his boots!" Stuff like that.

Warmest regards,

The bit on England is painfully accurate.

I recommend always assuming 7th normal form where items in a text column are not allowed to rhyme.

it's the UK knickerboxers. Thought everyone knew that ?

Going anywhere fun, say, beachy, over your vacation ?

And those stinkin' VC took your watch ? You didn't entrust it to Captain Koons to give to your kid as his birthright in case you didn't come back ?

Well by Bob Abooey (4.00 / 1) #11 Fri Jun 09, 2006 at 09:40:03 AM EST
Actually I never wore my own watch when going out on patrol. We had a stash of stolen VC watches we would put on so if we got killed they would simply be stealing their own watch back. Pretty sharp thinking, eh?

re: No, I'm not going anywhere this time.

Hey, the World Cup is doing better in this country than Stanley Cup. If not for Sportscenter, I wouldn't have known that's still going on. Nor would the rest of the United States, where the first game of the series drew a whopping 600k viewers on OLN.

I am one of 600K. The US will probably kick major European and Latin American butt in the World Cup. For a country that gets berated for being ostentatious, especially its sports stars, the US Soccer team have been quiet achievers.

Vegas has taken about 30M in wagers on the World Cup. That's more than NHL, but far less than MLB, NFL or NBA.

the red wings could make it past the first round.

or the idiot NHL could get themselves on a real network, that like, people get.

I get OLN by riceowlguy (2.00 / 0) #18 Fri Jun 09, 2006 at 01:51:21 PM EST
and all I have is basic cable.

Being on a network is overrated.  Anybody poor enough to not have cable isn't worth advertising to.

Okay, seriously, yeah, it's hard to find, but I don't think that's the main reason nobody's watching hockey.  I think it's because hockey on TV is boring.

You also forgot to point out that US Soccer players have mental difficulties.  Not as many as US Rugby players, but a lot.
