Will somebody please tell our beloved chorus master that the time to make changes to our diction and pronunciation and whatnot was a week ago before we started blocking? We have other things on our minds right now plzkthxbye. Also, when the director said we should get out early tonight because of how late he'd kept us each rehearsal last week, I don't think 9:30 is what he meant. More like 8:15.
I'm probably in a bad state; I'm yelling at a taped Nova episode from the 80's on TV ("9 switches on the stick and 13 on the throttle [of an F-15] is a good thing; it's called HOTAS, let me tell you how much I started owning at Jane's USAF once I got my Saitek X-36...").
I hit the gym on Sunday, thinking that an hour of heavy breathing followed by ten minutes in the steam room would be just the thing for my lungs and hey, it seemed to work. I repeated this before rehearsal tonight, which is great in general but has the drawback (you probably didn't need to know this) of getting me warmed up, meaning that I sweat that much more when prancing around on stage under the lights. Or even standing around during a music rehearsal. There's no helping it though; I'm not going to get through Act I of Pinafore without some eleventh-hour fitness cramming.
Hurrah for the blessed night off!
You're going to want to drink, but don't do it. This sound bit of stage advice is brought to you by John Gremillion.
