Help!

So I was thinking about people planting tree's to make up for the carbon cost of 'em flying from one place to another. Also, I was thinking about the fact that I breathe in oxygen more than I breathe it out, and I breathe out Carbon Dioxide more than I breathe it in.

Stupid marijuana.

So how many tree's do I have to plant to make up for all the breathing I'm gonna do if I live my relaxed and slackfull lifestyle till I'm, um, three score years and ten.

breathe into that, smoke the buds and bury the stems.

haven't you heard the news? by lm (4.00 / 2) #3 Thu May 18, 2006 at 02:29:07 PM EST
Carbon dioxide is life.

Accoding to this page you would need to plant 91 trees every year, but that counts breathing, driving, and watching telly among other things. But that page does give an important number, it says that the average tree (at least in Oz) soaks up about 270kg of CO2 per year.

Another page on the same site says that the average person breathes out 310kg of CO2 per year.

Kindness is an act of rebellion.
About a tree a year then, give or take by priestess (2.00 / 0) #5 Thu May 18, 2006 at 11:03:14 PM EST
Hummmm. More than I thought it'd be.

...the tree soaks that much up per year, you breath out that much per year. one tree and you're set for life.

Lung capacity: 5 L
Actual breath volume: .5 L
Percentage point change in CO2 volume for in vs out: 5% Breaths/minute: ~15
Average lifespan: 70 years

All of this adds up to about 14000 m3 over a lifetime.

Now a tree uses....oh, screw it. Just read this.

You're carbon neutral... by squigs (4.00 / 3) #6 Thu May 18, 2006 at 11:12:54 PM EST
The carbon dioxide you breath out gets the carbon from the food you eat.  If this is a vegetable, then it consumed that much carbon dioxide when growing.  If it's meat, then it ate the vegetables that consumed that much carbon dioxide when growing.  If this is intoxicating drugs, burning them jsut releases the amount of carbon dioxide  they consumed too.

Yeah, guess so by priestess (4.00 / 1) #7 Fri May 19, 2006 at 12:52:52 AM EST
Unless I eat coal! And petro-chemicals!

I'm sure I do eat some petro-chemicals. They seem to be in everything.
