The Good: Karl took his first steps this morning.

The Bad: I wasn't there.

The Neutral: flowergrrl told me about it via SMS.

Memory Lane: I think I was at work for the older boys first steps as well.

We thought we saw D1's first steps. When told the nursery the next day they said "Oh, she's been walking for weeks, we thought you knew?"

She'd just been hiding it at home, because we'd do stuff for her :)

We were looking the other direction.

One minute he was here, then he was there.

Great news! by lm (2.00 / 0) #3 Thu Apr 06, 2006 at 06:09:28 AM EST
But, unfortunately, once they learn to stand and walk, their effective reach extends by almost a meter. Oodles of stuff that used to be `safe' is now a target.

But stuff that is `safe' for the older elf is not necessarly `safe' for the younger elf. One is old enough to understand that pulling all the tape out of a cassette tape is not a good idea. To the other, it's just fascinating that you can keep pulling and pulling and pulling ...

The other good: by MohammedNiyalSayeed (2.00 / 0) #4 Thu Apr 06, 2006 at 06:17:22 AM EST

The little dude won't remember you weren't there. The important thing is to make sure the house is mobility-proof, as, I'm sure you already know, next thing he'll be climbing stuff, opening cabinets, and jumping off the back of the couch.

I totally forgot how much fun flying off the back of the couch was.

Everybody still hates me in this city and I hate everybody.

Though my neighbors complain about all the noise.

I missed my daughter's first steps, but not only did I see her first crawl, I taught her how to do it - I literally got down on the living room floor and showed her how.

This is not a psychotic episode. It is a cleansing moment of clarity.
