Below, some notes and thank yous.

As a Canadian and a calm one at that, I frequently have cause to swallow my words in the name of civility. That's why it's so refreshing sometimes to just let 'er rip and debate something. I greatly enjoyed the flamewar about my wife's boobs, and I'd like to thank all of those who participated.

Especially: Blixco, who is a stand-up citizen in my eyes for not only indulging my inquiries, but also suffering through the parts where our dialogue became rambunctious (as is wont to happen when you're typing fast and furious) without losing his cool. True, he called "Feminism!" on me, but re-reading the thread it really does look like I'm accusing him of misogyny so I say we're on even ground for exchanging that kind of shot. Ultimately I found his point of view informative.

LFT: I'm sorry I didn't come to your defense sooner. I was confused by the exchange, and was suspending judgement until I acquired further information for context. I thought there must be something else behind what I was seeing, instead of what it appeared to be, which was just natural female competitiveness. Had I realized the character of the attacks sooner I'd have spoken up more quickly. Apologies.

Persimmon: again, thanks for your candour.

Calla: I've been in general treating this one with kid-gloves for a long time on account of having a crush on her boyfriend, but I feel refreshed and delighted that it now seems appropriate to call 'em as I see 'em with her. Thank you, calla, for revealing your true colours.

rmg: What happened to you, man? Where is your energy going these days, if not here?

We got to touch on some interesting issues, including Germaine Greer's famous Madonna/Whore Dichotomy which I think bears more exploration, but I'll leave that for another time. Plenty to mull over!

Was that by blixco (4.00 / 2) #1 Tue Apr 04, 2006 at 04:09:16 AM EST
a flame war?  I'd think flame war implies that it was a heated, angry thing.  The only bit that got me was the subtle change in perception from me talking about my wife to me talking about everyone.

And I don't know that I used the phrase feminist.

Otherwise: good show!  Your wife's boobs are now the hottest topic of discussion on HuSi!  Never let it be said we're a bunch of stuffed shirts here!  Heh.

...where you referenced women's sufferage throughout the last century, as a context for understanding objectification.

Um, it's a bit flamey now in parts -- particularly exchanges involving calla, persimmon-FT, and of course the bits with Captain Happy-Pants a.k.a. codemonkey_yuk.

About your cock piece: I asked Littlestar if she wanted me to post an expose on my member, and she said, "No." Good thing, or we'd have looked like penis diary buddies which some camps might misinterpret as homosexual, misandrous, or both.

I foolishly thought the title of yon diary was a tease, so imagine my consternation when I clicked on the link at work to be confronted with a rather magnificent cleavage.

I would flame you for not warning us, but, well, you did. I just didn't believe you...

Damn you and your double-bluffs, you tricky Canuck!

Way too subtle.

And I'm not going anywhere near the hole diary Blixco has posted.

It's just part of CBB's nefarious plot to dominate the front page.

Blixco past couple posts started knocking off his Enemies posts, so he posted a great story about Robots that he's probably been saving, and then a post about his wifes beautiful breasts, that he knew would get voted +1FP. </joke>

I mean, "feminism" once meant "women should be allowed to vote" and "men should not have property interests in their wives" and "women should be allowed to have careers if they want them", and I think the world is a better place for all of these memes having succeeded.

natural female competitiveness

My whole point is that my motivation (or sin, if you like that word) is disliking someone in a heavily antisocial, generally non-tit-related fashion, not being jealous of some aspect of LFT, understood in this case to be her tits, as people keep assuming and stating.

Unless any animosity between females is necessarily a "catfight" and "competitive" and in that case blah blah blah feminist theory until your ears bleed.
