On channel the other day, I expressed a desire for new music that wasn't "more goddamn emo shit". Someone (mh? Druisan?) pointed me at Death From Above 1979. It pleased my esthetic sensibilities.

After purchasing this album, I came upon a glowing review from one "mns" while perusing the Apple online store. Is this the same person as the known troll that infest this site?

Speaking of which, the bastard got me drunk at a trendy SF bar. At least I think it was him. My memory is a bit hazy.

The floor to the new office is being hammered into place as we speak. Carpet goes in next Monday. We go in after that. w00t! We spent the weekend painting trim and cleaning out my current office. I hauled incredible amounts of shit out of there. Now all that's left is the furniture.

Most of it's dragons. About twenty years ago, I let it be known (in an offhand way) that I "like dragons". Ever since my relatives have showered me with random dragon related knick-knacks for every holiday/birthday. I really need to figure out a polite way of saying "I don't need any more goddamn knick-knacks!" I mean, some of them are cool, but I've got shelves overflowing with cool looking but useless crap.

Hmm....how about...I'm no longer into dragons...I'm into zen. Please buy me a nothing.

For a few years now, as often as not, I've been feeling like shit and basically unrested when I woke up. The heating system was turned off on Tuesday and replaced. It hasn't happened since. Gord knows what was growing in the ductwork and infecting me.

Speaking of stuff we should have done years ago...last week our contractor took out our second water heater. Since then, we've noticed no difference in hot water usage.

It's a near thing, but the FoML may be reading before he's potty trained. I took a photo series last night where he made faces. I'm trying to decide if I'll post his "grumpy old troll" face publically.

Both on iTunes Music Store, and at the trendy SF bar.

I KNOW NO BOUNDS!

I mean, are we talking Walmart-grade nothing or serious B&O elegantly-minimalist nothing?

Also - do not humiliate your offspring with potty-training pix: They get to pick your nursing home.

That was poor writing...the pics aren't potty pics.

if you like DFA79 by 256 (2.00 / 0) #5 Mon Feb 27, 2006 at 11:37:34 AM EST
I recommend Turbonegro. Though they are a little heavier.

Also, water heaters are one of the west's most decadent evils. If I owned rather than rented, I would switch to on-demand hot water in a second. Even living in Canada.

And when the tairsts poison the reservoirs by georgeha (2.00 / 0) #7 Mon Feb 27, 2006 at 11:45:54 AM EST
I'll have 40 gallons of potable water all to myself!

Are those instant heaters safe indoors when you use gas heating, or do you have to position them outside?

According to the contractor guy.

i don't know about the gas variety by 256 (2.00 / 0) #10 Mon Feb 27, 2006 at 11:54:12 AM EST
though i assume that they could be safely vented, or may not even need to be. I can't imagine that the gas usage would be that much higher than a gas stove at peak.

my direct experience has been with the electrical ones which are, of course, perfectly safe to use indoors (and can be used in a house that uses gas heating as long as you have a 250w circuit). The models i have used do take a couple of minutes to warm up however, so you have to be willing to make minor alterations to your water use habits.

I shall take "Turbonegro" under advisement.

We plan to switch to on-demand eventually, but the current water heater is fairly new so it's low on the priority list.

I just expressed incredulity that you hadn't heard of Death From Above 1979. If I was going to recommend music that wasn't more goddamn emo shit it would be Metric. Or the Les Misérables soundtrack (or is that too whiny and emo?)
