For the acronym challenged, that's Definite Ex-Girlfriend.

So what is PNG? (nt) by ta bu shi da yu (3.00 / 0) #1 Sat May 22, 2004 at 02:28:25 AM EST

Explanation by Evil Cloaked User (6.00 / 1) #3 Sat May 22, 2004 at 02:35:06 AM EST
PNG was the term I used to describe a girl that I met who was dubbed Potential New Girlfriend. Even after she was solidly ensconced as an actual girlfriend, the nick stuck.

Bad luck. by ambrosen (6.00 / 2) #4 Sat May 22, 2004 at 02:35:28 AM EST
I take it you're a bit upset given the terseness. My sympathies.

A tad. by Evil Cloaked User (6.00 / 1) #6 Sat May 22, 2004 at 02:40:24 AM EST
She lived far away anyway, so it's not as jarring as if I saw her every day and then suddenly didn't. But nonetheless, I am not a happy bunny. It's been a long time since I was on the receiving end of a breakup. Normally I'm the one who ends these things.

Indeed. by ambrosen (3.00 / 0) #8 Sat May 22, 2004 at 03:07:39 AM EST
It had truly sounded like you were very happy. Which makes it a shame. Sounds like you'll be sinking a few tonight, I guess.

Nope. by Evil Cloaked User (3.00 / 0) #10 Sat May 22, 2004 at 03:11:41 AM EST
I don't plan to be drinking tonight. Somehow it doesn't seem appropriate. I've no desire to drunkenly rant to people about how shit it all is because I don't want to bad mouth her. I like her, and she handled it all very well.

I'll be meeting MDB for a coffee, but that's about the size of it. Well, that and immersing myself in my work.

[ Parent ]
Fair enough. by ambrosen (3.00 / 0) #13 Sat May 22, 2004 at 03:48:00 AM EST
Of course, you can complain about how shit it all is without badmouthing her, but fair play to you for dusting yourself down and carrying on.

The work I'm immersing myself is my own contracting work. It's all software. And provided I can meet my deadline (which is looking a lot more realistic now) it'll pay very well.

Thanks. by Evil Cloaked User (5.00 / 1) #12 Sat May 22, 2004 at 03:15:07 AM EST
At the end of the day, I don't regret it though. I'm glad we got together. I'm glad I stuck at it even though she was in Dublin. Things worth doing are rarely easy. It's a shame it didn't work out, but it's a greater shame not to try.

that's the key by joh3n (3.00 / 0) #16 Sat May 22, 2004 at 07:57:59 AM EST
As long as you dont regret it, getting over it is much easier.  Nevertheless, hope the getting over it goes smooth.

No regrets. by Evil Cloaked User (3.00 / 0) #19 Sat May 22, 2004 at 01:41:35 PM EST
Not this time.

I can only think of two girls I've ever regretted. One turned into a stalker and the other (almost entirely unbeknown to me) had something approaching a boyfriend.

Wouldn't Evil Cloaked User and Cloaked User getting too close be like matter and anti-matter coming together.

Coincidence? You decide.

It's been nearly 6.5 years since I've been on the receiving end of a break up as opposed to the delivering end. And I'm 24 years old.

I knew she wasn't for you. Just not your type. She wasn't a barmaid for a start.

Don't sit and wallow. Just get back out there ASAP.

I guess that's what I get by Evil Cloaked User (3.00 / 0) #25 Sun May 23, 2004 at 10:55:22 PM EST
For trying to deny my true calling. On the downside, I can't think of any good-looking single barmaids that I know that I've not been with already. I may have to start going to new pubs.

I shall endeavour by Evil Cloaked User (3.00 / 0) #28 Mon May 24, 2004 at 01:06:32 AM EST
To find a few. But it's not that big a town, and I've been to most of the good ones already.

Yup. by Evil Cloaked User (3.00 / 0) #26 Sun May 23, 2004 at 10:57:34 PM EST
And in the process, I get to be preachy and moralising to other people.

Frankly, I'm a little suprised at how non-plussed I feel.
