A few years ago, someone on the Edinburgh Freecycle list sent an email to the list offering their car. It was working, taxed and MOT'd. Unfortunately the date of the email was a few years in the future. This meant that in the Yahoo Groups archive, it would appear as the first message until that date passed.

New members would always see that email first. A significant proportion of them would think "oo free car" and email this poor chap. Thus over the next year we were treated to an increasingly irate series of emails with subject lines like "Sorry, car is gone", "Please ignore message above about car", "STOP ASKING ME ABOUT THE CAR".

Eventually he quit the group.
