Pursuant to ucb's diary on SF being unseasonably hot, I have been enjoying the heat of Phoenix. Like anything that gets hot it can be tough at times, but for the most part, I like it. I feel far more comfortable here than on the Mid-Atlantic or NE.

Was eating trail mix and threw my head back to chuck some in my mouth and actually managed to get a soft peanut skin adhered to my left eyeball.

Went up Bell Pass. Pictures. More commentary. It is a tough climb of approximately four miles with the last stretch being heavily vertical. I think it is a rougher climb than Camelback.

How cynically horrible. Robotic baby seals in lieu of a real pet in order to make old people smile but without all the pooping, grooming and feeding? Humanity can be so disgustingly inhumane when trying to be humane.

We want your profits

This really bothers me. Andrew Leigh is arguing for a windfall tax on the coal industry in Australia. I consider it arbitrary government. But if you start slapping pot luck taxes on industries then you also have to entertain the inverse and give them tax breaks, funding, legislation in their favour when they are doing poorly through bad luck or geopolitics. I am against that too. The only way you can argue that it is possible if you accept the collectivization or nationalization of coal, which goes against the principles of market economy. Consequently it is impossible to defend and becomes stealing.
