Vising schools, a monastery. Will have limited connectivity. Therefore, big questions about social order will be deferred until my return. I will definitely be thinking about them, though.

Chess before beer, shoulda had a beer.

My coworker had a retirement shindig last night. Free beer! I also had a chess match last night. So I went for drinks and then nipped out to play a game.

I wound a few things down, so now I have a little less stress. I turned in all my outstanding homework in numerical analysis, I'd been sitting on one or two problems for weeks.

The rest of the content is much like all the other content I have been producing lately.

Executive summary: tired, doing work for classes, played chess poorly, waiting for responses. Very quotidian.

Heard back from Notre Dame's program, got in, have the first year off from teaching duties, decent support package. Though, frankly, the more I looked at the program during the applications, the more "only okay" it seemed. I'll see if it looks better on the visit, because it still looks like a good program. However, it's small and it's relatively new.
