The guy who was my wife's second PhD advisor, who eventually granted her PhD, who first wanted to sleep with her, and when she refused made her life terrible and delayed her PhD?

He killed himself.

Couldn't have happened to a better person. He'd long been an insufferable prick. Back in the day my wife didn't tell me that he'd been a slimy fucker (he professed his love for her, he insisted they sleep together, he was entirely awful in all those ways guys, and guys alone, with a modicum of power can be) until much later. Lucky him. I'd still be in prison, and he'd still be dead.

Years pass, and we hear about this: https://www.mystatesman.com/news/local/declined-sanction-professor-who-pleaded-guilty-violent-felony/turzhL5nv6dPkQ6bVjJo1J/

Then on Thursday, we find out he "died suddely at home" with no foul play suspected. The talk around campus is that he offed himself.

Now, I'd never wish suicide on anyone. To get to that point? I've been close and close was too fucking much.

But this douche canoe? I dunno. Suicide may have been too good, ya know?

another woman having to work under these circumstances.  while it's too late to do anything about her situation now, any chance she'll contact the U and tell them what happened to her, and suggest they set up some kind of reporting structure for that kind of thing?  i'm so sick of all this shit.

University reporting structures by debacle (4.00 / 1) #5 Tue Apr 10, 2018 at 10:46:44 AM EST
Are the worst thing ever. They're a mechanism for the university to stifle the actual process when people have been sexually harassed and/or raped. They're the reason these creeps never see justice.

Engage a lawyer and/or call real police (not campus cops).

Title IX by iGrrrl (2.00 / 0) #8 Wed Apr 18, 2018 at 10:52:24 AM EST
There are too many stories of the woman reporting being dragged in the Title IX process. They still need lawyers, etc. Their emails are forensically examined, etc. Title IX offices generally follow a CtheUA process, not any justice.
