In which the author invites friends and acquaintances to help launch a novel.

As you may know, I'll be launching my new novel, "Necessary Lies," on about February 15, 2018. I would like to invite you to be part of the Launch Team for this book.

What's involved? What do you get out of it?

You get an advance copy of the book, which you can read. If you could write a few-paragraph review of the book, to help prospective buyers decide whether they'd like to read it, that would be super. I hope you love the book, but do be honest. You can e-mail me the review for safe keeping, and when the launch is immanent, I'll e-mail it back to you with instructions on how to post it at Amazon. It's useful to have some reviews ready to go on the official launch date.

It would also be cool if you could talk it up among your friends, relations, and network acquaintances.

I'm setting up a Facebook group for the launch team. If you're a Facebook user, I'm happy to send you an official invitation to join that group, or you can find it at this link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/201603560420506/ . The PDF version of the novel will be available there. If you're not a Facebook user, I can e-mail it to you or leave it in a spot where you can find it. My e-mail address is richard dot j dot edgar at gmail dot com.

"Necessary Lies" is the tale of a couple who can legally marry only on one side of the Potomac River. They commute in opposite directions from their home in the Northern Virginia suburbs. On that one horrible day when their daughter Miranda is involved in an accident, they manage to get her transferred across the river to where both parents can be involved in her care. In the confusion, the younger daughter is forgotten by both of her preoccupied moms.

This is the tale of what to do next when your life collapses under the consequences of necessary lies.

This is the story that you posted some options for your jacket cover text a while ago. Congrats on getting it across the finish line.

Cool and congrats for getting it out there by Scrymarch (4.00 / 1) #2 Thu Jan 18, 2018 at 10:16:53 AM EST
I'm guessing the last two paragraphs are blurb text?

I'm sorry to add a comment when you have already probably obsessed and tuned the crap out of it. But have you considered making it slightly less spoilery? Particularly these two sentences:

On that one horrible day when their daughter Miranda is involved in an accident, they manage to get her transferred across the river to where both parents can be involved in her care. In the confusion, the younger daughter is forgotten by both of her preoccupied moms.

I guess this is where a lot of vague and purple blurb copy comes from. Which I would hate to do to yours, and can't think of the right phrasing. I keep ending up with "then one day a daughter's accident will change their lives forever lightning bolt crash of thunder." Yours is definitely better than that.

Point well taken. by ana (2.00 / 0) #3 Thu Jan 18, 2018 at 12:23:54 PM EST
Though much of the drama has to do with the reactions of the characters to the trainwreck sketched out above. It could be less specific. And I haven't actually figured out the "book description" blurb to go on Amazon yet, so your input is welcome.

Or get rabies. Also don't do that. --scrymarch
