The CG is a Ridley Scott wet dream.

That said, the plot is... acceptable. A predictable Hollywood blockbuster storyline that's a mishmash of a lot of set piece scenes from both the original GITS and the GITS-SAC reboot.

It's one saving grace in my mind is that they not only address the "whitewashing" of Major "Mira Killington" in the context of the movie, they took the trouble to do it in a way that is quite plausible in the context of the GITS-SAC universe and will probably satisfy most non-otaku fans of Motoko Kusanagi.

It's biggest failing, IMHO, (once you accept the limitations of an American blockbuster plot) is the uncompelling soundtrack.

I take it back - the movie had two saving graces. by ObviousTroll (2.00 / 0) #1 Sat Apr 01, 2017 at 02:00:06 PM EST
The second saving grace is that Aramaki only ever speaks Japanese and just assumes that all the English speaking people will be able to use their enhancements to translate.

The best CG wasn't CG at all.

But yeah, that scene was made up 100% from SAC.

Man I hate that Adam Savage was anywhere near that shit though. (They fudged a little too much on that show of his.)

Bad news about the soundtrack, then. Why didn't they hire Yoko Kanno? Her music is amazing and usually something westerners can appreciate. Maybe they didn't want the OST to show up the feature in sales.

Chill out, snowflake.

a version of "Making of a Cyborg", the original opening theme, but decoupled from the sequence of watching the puppeteer pass through the assembly line it loses a lot of its impact. (Or was it the Major in the assembly line? Or both? There was always a kind of ambiguity about that sequence that added to the pathos of the Major wondering if she was human or not...)
