I knew it!

Late last week, there was a recruiter on my LinkedIn from the company that blew me off 6 months ago. The recruiter went totally dark after a weird-ass phone interview with their head of PM/head of development. The PM guy talked about his fiance (who worked at the same company I did but I didn't know her well), repeated about how busy he was, no real understanding of the business or the challenges of the market. From the conversation, the PM guy was given additional power by the CEO (they were apparently friends at some level) to conduct certain initiatives (outside of his experience) because "things needed to get done" or somesuch. The phone interview was basically this technical PM dude trying to shoehorn marketing tasks into something technical. Like I said, it was a weird interview. The company already has a not-great reputation in the area, and the red-flags in the phone interview made me wary.

Despite my misgivings about the phone interview, I followed up with the recruiter...and never heard back. Not even a "Sorry I don't know what is going on." I was seething since I spent a few hours communicating with this company. But then on Monday, there was an awkward email asking if I was still interested in speaking to them again for the (ill-defined) position. I was going to ignore the email, but late last night I got curious and checked to see if the weird head of PM was still at the company...nope, he departed in August.

So at least I have my answer as to what happened. If I thought it was just one guy who was a problem at the company I might have reconsidered. (From the stories I heard even before I interviewed, there's cultural/leadership issues and it starts with the CEO.) But it's not, so I am just going to ignore the recruiter. Anyway, I feel better.

I have to set up a call with a guy from a startup to talk about a job. Lower pay than I wanted, but could work remote.

In other news, LO and the idiot NY banker boyfriend finally broke it off. I figured something was up when he didn't visit her during her fall break (she can't travel because of the puppy). She said she realized it was over a few weeks prior, but she wanted him to break up with her. Fair enough.

LO ended up dropping this one specific science stats class for her major, the class is being deprecated by the department and there's no other advanced class after it. LO was one of 3 sophomores in the class and the professor seemed to know most of the seniors/graduate students. She could have struggled through it for the low C, but there was no point in bringing down her major GPA for a subfield she isn't that enthused about. If she has to take the class again, her next opportunity will be as a senior or as a grad student if she does the combined Masters. Math and rocks ain't her thing.

I haven't been social much (big exception was going to dinner for my parents' 50th anniversary the other week) but I did buy 400 pieces of Airheads for Halloween.

That is all. I have to run to the store to get cat food or else the cats will be ready to take things into their hands if I don't.
