Diary

So, my Thursday started at 06:00 Mountain time in Logan Utah, and ended at 03:00 Eastern time on what other people would call Saturday.

But the roadie rule was, "It's not the next day until you've slept." This was a particularly rough travel day. Most are easier than this, where I only have to be "on" when I'm at the client site. Not this one.

I had two back-to-back seminars at Utah State, one for grad students and one for faculty in arts and humanities. These are full day affairs. Wait, okay, here's what really happened.

Tuesday:
Wake up at 04:00 because car is picking me up at 4:15. Direct flight to SLC, and then 2.5 hrs in the Delta Sky Club, waiting for the shuttle to take me up to Logan. Spend flight and wait times working, dictating critiques. Get to hotel, exercise, finish critiques, dress and do face and then get picked up for a reception for people to meet me at 18:00, 20:00 body clock. Bed: 22:30 local.

Wednesday:
Wake up at 06:15. Exercise (I'm on a squat/crunch/pushup/plank challenge with increasing numbers each day). Look over PPTs while eating breakfast (cereal I brought from home in a coffee mug, water instead of milk. Walk over to venue at 07:45. Chat with familiar people, get introduced at 08:45, and then talk until 16:30. Dinner with sponsor who is also now friend, dumped back at campus hotel. Finish challenge exercises. Fart around on the internet. Bed: 23:00 local

Thursday:
Wake up at 06:15. Exercise (7 Minute workout with the 20 sec increased to 40 sec, plus the extra challenge stuff, since I know I can't exercise the rest of the day). Check Twitter. See tweet from friend about grant, and message her to send it to me. Spend next 30 min eating cereal and commenting on her grant (no excuse for 8 pt font in figure legends!). Realize I've been nerd sniped, and must stop to put on game face. Send her comments, and get dressed and packed. Drop bag at front desk. Get to venue at 08:10. Chat with VPR, talk less constantly from 8:35-17:00 (finished at 16:00, but talked with sponsor friend until shuttle came). Go to airport, hang out in Sky Club until 22:55 boarding, get bumped to 1st class. Fail to sleep on plane.

Friday:
Land in NYC at 06:00, get changed and washed up in Sky Club. Have breakfast, catch flight to DC. Land in DC at 10:00, walk out of security and to the ticketing desk, and check my bag for flight home. Metro to conference center, realizing I'm so tired that the lines on the escalator ar seriously messing with my depth perception.  Then lunch with toxicfur. (Yay, lunch with toxicfur!) Meet up with other people we will present with at 12:00. Finalize presentation. Give it at 13:00, to a good-sized audience with lots of questions. Catch up with email. Catch up with friend. Walk over to the National Zoo with toxicfur and see a cheetah, but nothing else. Head to airport. Security. Sky Club. Go to gate. Boarding delayed 15 min, which is Not Good (original itinerary had me landing in Detroit at 21:15, the same time my connecting flight started to board). Land at 21:30, barrel out of the plane and down the jetway, running and calling, "On your left! I'm not kidding". Run/walk (walked on the moving sidewalks) 43 gates. Last person to board. Drink scotch and watch Big Bang Theory on the in-flight entertainment.

Saturday:
Land in Boston at 12:03. Get bag and meet driver. Driver talks in all seriousness about the Illuminati, and how Trump isn't one of them, but Obama wants the new world order. Tell him about the Koch brothers. Get home about 01:45, too wired to sleep. Watch Blacklist. Fall over at 03:00.

DCA by iGrrrl (4.00 / 1) #2 Sat Feb 13, 2016 at 04:49:08 PM EST
And you can tell the politics if a person said National Airport or Reagan National.

I just learned today by dev trash (4.00 / 1) #3 Sat Feb 13, 2016 at 04:54:48 PM EST
That Congress restricts direct flights to DCA so that Dulles can get more traffic.  You'd think it'd be better to get the Silver Line finished so people could fly into Dulles and actually get into DC without all the hassle.

Rich people in the inner suburbs scream bloody murder and hire lawyers if they think aircraft might be overhead after 11pm.

Your driver was half right.

Obama certainly does want the new world order, but Trump almost certainly IS Illuminati (albeit perhaps from one of the less well connected factions).
