What I'm Reading
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. First in a series. After the death of his grandfather a teenager discovers a group of children with supernatural abilities, pursued by monsters. Pretty good book. Not a hugely original concept, but well executed, seems to be trying to be a bit earthier than Harry Potter though not going as far as the Magician trilogy. Has an interesting gimmick in that the story is woven around found photographs. Will probably look out for later volumes and see how they go.

Me
At work I'm now down to doing two projects at once instead three. Takes a bit of the pressure off, but it looks a bit bad because I had to hand over one of them without completing it, and the date had to slip a few weeks.

We got a new CEO a year ago and things seem to be getting chaotic as he puts a new team and policies in place. Instead of a clear line between us and the customers I have to deal with three different POs and also a line manager who's trying to juggle the constantly changing priorities. Two of the POs are based offshore and don't have much contact with our (largely UK) actual customers. I get the feeling the new senior management have only a tenuous grasp of the business and the technology. They might also have the gung-ho attitude that regards pointing out obstacles as defeatist treachery. Maybe they'll get the hang of things though, the last CEOs company did pretty well apparently.

I charge in USD and am now nearly 20% better off as a direct result of El Brex.

And that's on top of an even bigger bonus thanks to the new local government's incompetencies.

Funny old world.

I thought the critical exchange rate for you would be Euro to Dollar not Pound to Dollar, or has this changed too'

Poland doesn't use the EUR, Złoty's where it's at.

Had a nice right-place-right-time a few times this year of cashing in when the price looked right, and now pounds are cheap when I just happen to need them ---> doublebonuswin.

While I'd never claim to be an FX expert - looks like a rigged market to me - if you don't need to exchange right this very second, you can do quite well if you play the long game.

It says much for my sense of style in the 80s that I was quite surprised one day to find Noel Edmonds wearing a jumper exactly the same as one I had owned for some time....

I was thinking Of Course He Means Raymond E Feist. Even though books 2 and 3 are basically thematic dessert to the first book.

Cannot be called such when they are held by significant percentages of the population.

especially when significant percentages of the population are proveably wrong.
