I was pleasantly surprised to hear UKIP's leader Nigel Farage express his wish that drugs be legalised.

Yet more evidence of Nigel's astounding common sense.

..it is composed of a mix of swivel eyed loons and people talking sense. The only question is the proportion of each.

My litmus test for swivel eyed lunacy by gmd (2.00 / 0) #8 Tue Apr 22, 2014 at 02:23:30 PM EST
Is the single question:

Are you in favour of the United Kingdom's ongoing membership of the European Union?

If you answer "yes" then you are obviously a swivel eyed loon.

If you answer "no" you are probably someone who has actually done some research on the European Union and it's goal for a "United States of Europe" with member nations reduced to "regions" and a common European army and police force.

Stealthy EU scope creep is a very real problem.

gzt's recent diary dealt with the swivel eyed lunacy of US states going back to being separate nations. Do you suggest that Scotland (and presumably Wales) should leave as well?

I believe by anonimouse (2.00 / 0) #12 Tue Apr 22, 2014 at 06:49:20 PM EST
...that it is probably difficult to not have some form of European Union. The question is how independent the Member States should be within that Union.

I believe that Scotland and Wales would be similarly swivel eyed if they left the UK.

Most businesses seem to believe that:
  • being in the EU is beneficial for the UK
  • being in the UK is beneficial for Scotland
I actually like Farage more when he is not talking about the EU and would be more likely to vote UKIP on the basis of their attitude to other matters.

I am a fervent supporter of devolution by gmd (2.00 / 0) #13 Tue Apr 22, 2014 at 08:25:40 PM EST
For Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and indeed, Cornwall,

as an Englishman, this is the only way my oppressed people are ever likely to get self-determination.

For too long the Scotch lefties have been inflicting their particular brand of socialism on the rest of the UK, and more importantly on England, which would be Tory through and through forever if it were not for the "union".

Hitler made the motorways run on time, doesn't mean he wasn't a war criminal does it?

Mussolini was famous for making trains run on time and even built one of the earliest motorways in the 1920s.
Hitler built substantial amounts of Autobahn up to 1943.

Anyone utilising the modern autobahn in Germany by gmd (2.00 / 0) #9 Tue Apr 22, 2014 at 02:25:55 PM EST
Is complicit in war crimes. They should have dug them up after ww2 so the nation did not profit materially from the racist Nazis ruthlessly efficient approach to civil engineering.

They were largely dug up during World War 2 by a combination of the RAF and USAF. They had to be almost completely rebuilt. Strangely a guy called Konrad Adenauer seems to have started the autobahn building process as Mayor of Cologne. After the war he became German Chancellor.....

Libertarian idiots want drugs legalized too.  They just want to do it while stepping over the bodies of the dead poor.

No no no by riceowlguy (4.00 / 1) #6 Tue Apr 22, 2014 at 01:50:56 PM EST
What they want is to be able to smoke the bodies of the dead poor.  They're probably full of great drugs.

Wish my body (which is my personal property) to be smoked after my death, what business is it of the State?

As a libertarian by gmd (2.00 / 0) #15 Wed Apr 23, 2014 at 02:40:30 AM EST
That is my personal choice. Distasteful perhaps, but still, not a matter for the State to intervene with its coercive "lawa".
